Public Service Announcement:
Yahoo Groups is closing down and the content will be deleted in December.
I have been doing some research and found that the original creator of Yahoo Groups has an alternative.
It's called Groups.io (www.groups.io) it's a freemium service which means it's free but you can pay for some features if you would like them. You can move the content from your Yahoo Group to groups.io
Another alternative is using a forum that you can access through Tapatalk or you can make a Tapatalk group.
There is a messaging app which is similar to WhatsApp but you don't need to use your mobile number as a way of being contacted. You use that to sign up and log in but you can set a username. People can use the username to reach you and won't need your number. It's called Telegram. You can use the mobile app, the web browser or a desktop app. It has two step verification for each log in. (You receive an authorisation code by text message.)
You can also register for free forum boards and make them private. Good luck whichever route you try! You can access the forum via Tapatalk if app access is important to you.

Thanx for you work on putting this list together but it would be more helpful, at least to me,
to get more detailed information and what you think would work for us which is the most important thing.
I think many of the programs online are not very beneficial. For example I cannot stand Messaging on Facebook
and would not want anything that works like that.

What about using google groups? I wouldn't want one of those messaging networks that don't give the option of a digest.

Re: This just turned up in my Facebook page
I too would not like to see the group become either a Facebook group, or anything involving messaging — I hope we will remain as an email group.
I think the two options we’ve had the most(?) information about so far are (1) Io and (2) WordPress.
Could anyone give a breakdown of the pros and cons of each of those, any particular bases for preferring one or the other?
(AND of course any fuller exploration of any other!)
And noting again—it may be that all of this is meaningless, without Ardavan’s participation…
