Dear Finrod,
I don't agree with your observation that "what if it doesn't work, what have we lost?".
In treatment it is the fundamental principle that " you have no right to harm the patient if you are not in a position to deliver good to the patient". By prolonging the case especially in GB stones, malignancy to GB and pancreas may occur. You must draw a line where you can try apple juice theory, homoeopathic medicines and surgery. As I earlier mentioned the following basic principle to be followed when dealing with GB stone case;
1. If small moving stone is there, you can try apple juice/homoeopathic medicines.
2. To me the Slug in GB can be the best case for apple juice theory.
3. If GB is full of stones with thickened wall better advise the patient for surgical removal.
Regards,
Dr.Sahni
