Hello Patricia,
A proving means you have taken enough remedy to create symptoms in your body from that remedy. As a rule when you stop the remedy you will revert back to your usual state as there is no longer an energy to continue the symptoms.

Essential oils have a direct effect on the body, that means they can over ride a response stimulated by a homeopathic remedy, meaning they take over the actions of the body and thus can antidote a homeopathic remedy that is much gentler than the oil.
Hope this helps to clarify your understanding.
