The Treatment of Complex Miasms/aphorism 42 etc./ David Little

There is little doubt that Samuel used quite Sulphur on a majority of
his chronic patients. His patient had a great amount of suppressions, drugs
and invasive medical procedures. When one reads the cases a lot of them do
seem to have classic Sulphur symptoms but that does not seem to be the only
reason. What do you think was behind this if it was not his preoccupation
with psora and suppression?
Hahnemann used a lot of placebo! I have reviewed 100s of
prescriptions. He never gave the C or LM potency for very long without
administering placebos and waiting and watching for a period of 7 to 14
days or more. It seems he gave placebo when there was a very good reaction,
a confusion of symptoms, and at the first sign of aggravation. Dr. Croserio
spoke of this in his letter to Boenninghausen. Unfortunately, this aspect
of his method does not come across in the 6th Organon.
Normally, we can tell that the duration of the dose has ceased by a
slowing down of improvement or a relapse of symptoms. If the remedy was a
good simillimum the symptoms that return will be the same. When the remedy
is a partial simillimum the symptoms tend to change directions or be
altered when they return.
Yes, this is true. Clinical practice is not always so clear cut. That
is why we study homoeopathic pathology and remedy reactions so closely. As
far as the first signs of reaction to a good remedy that is often
amelioration if the dose and potency were correct or an similar aggravation
if the remedy was correct but the size of the dose and potency were
excessive or the remedy was repeated when not needed. A partial simillimum
will not hold or just changes the symptoms. The wrong remedy may produce
new symptoms. The appearance of old layers is usually the arousal of old
symptoms along the timeline, etc.. And of course, one has to deal with new
disease exposures. Can you help clarify this more and fill in the blanks?
Most of my grand clarity comes from hindsight! I never know anything in
advance. One can only make a hypothesis and then see what happens.
One point is important. When Hahnemann first spoke of the reversal of
symptoms in the Chronic Diseases he listed exceptions to the rule. He
stated that in cases of suppressions and drugging, and where there is a old
local complaint like one sided pathology, the related conditions might not
follow the time line. They will heal after some semblance of health has
been restored. This is important to remember.
I have only witnessed this in some cases. Many times the time the miasm
seem to peal of in layers related to time-line. I think it has something to
do with the dynamics between the strengths of the miasms when they form a
complex disorder (aph 40). A stronger miasm tries to repress the weaker
(aph. 38) but when it is reduced by a specific remedy the formerly weaker
miasm may become the stronger and therefore asserts itself will repressing
the other. Again, Hahnemann did say there are exceptions to the reversal of
the chronological order of the symptoms. This can sometimes happen when
their are complex miasms calling for two or three different remedies.
Yes, we do see this over longer periods of time. A person will have psora
symptoms that seem to be relieved and then they will change to sycotic
symptoms. Much later the psora appears again, although usually in a weaker
form.
Acquired miasms seem to be removed more easily. Inherited miasms are
such a part of the patient's congenital constitution that it could take
life long treatment. A inherited miasm misshape the physical organism
during the growth period. Some say it would take generations to complete
annihilate strong inherited miasms. As Hahnemann said, psora has been
passed through millions of human organisms.
God only knows. Some of Hahnemann's cases show clear results over month
and years and others go up and down for years. He also bungle some cases
and spent time correcting. The Paris casebooks are only the beginning of
homoeopathy. Hahnemann did not have as many proven remedies nor extensive
repertories and materia medicas we now possess. There are many great
insights into homoeopathic practice in the Paris casebooks but homoeopathy
has come a long way since 1840. Nevertheless, his casebooks are very useful
research.
One can only use a multi-miasmatic remedy when the characteristics symptoms
clearly point to the medicine as a simillimum. If their is no coherency in
the symptoms it is best to treat the most prominent miasm first.
When a case shows multi-miasmatic signs when have to go with what is most
clear. Trying to make on grand totality out of every symptoms as if they
are equal often misses the mark in complex disease states. Such a wide
totality is only suitable when their is a broad unified disease expression.
This is not often not the case when there are miasmatic layers, and/or
complex miasms active at the same time.
This complex case need more than one remedy to complete. I this the Sulphur
was affective the psora activate by suppression and the suppression sycosis
but had not affect on inherited syphilis.
This case was one of the wonderful cases where one remedy seems to
everything good time. I wish it was always this easy! It cured a very
complex disease with many elements.
Thank God for good luck.
Is there some way you can check to see if there is an English version?
The Indian homoeopaths really have good clinical experience in a wide range
of diseases. When I practice in the west my cliental is more limited. In
India you see every kind of cases even near death. In the west most of
these cases are taken by the allopathic doctors. If they come to a
homoeopath it is often as a last resort after they have been damaged by
drugs, surgeries and suppression.
Thanks for the chat. It makes one's labors more worthwhile.
Sincerely, David Little
