why homeopathy scares me...

Post by Carol Orr »

What if something comes up after first remedy and I don't know what to do? I
remember a case reported by Hans W long ago involving a child and the idea was
something like psora got activated and the child was in a high fever and it
was very important what the second remedy was....and he figured it out and
might have delivered the remedy himself to the child.. I remember there was
some urgency to find another remedy in case of.....death? I don't remember.
But the story had a lasting impression on me. You really have to know what you
are doing if such a thing would happen. I remember the first case I did after
my emailed classes and it took me six months of questioning the person over
and over until I felt confident to give them rhus tox. And it worked. What if
something came up and it took me another six months to figure out the next
remedy? Tied into this is sort of a lack of confidence in seeing homeopaths
here in town...or even listening to other cases online. Do they know what they
are doing? Are they following all the rules? And sometimes when I hear about
other cases and the remedies that are chosen...i don't have a clue about how
they came up with a particular remedy. And that really digs into my sense of
confidence. There was a time when I thought it was so simple and then I went
through a period where it all seemed so difficult and then it became easy
again and then difficult. And I think it is extremely important to discuss
one's reasoning with others...to hear what one is thinking by saying out loud
to another...things in your mind sometimes come out different or more
objective thought takes place when things are said out loud and you can hear
yourself and or are getting feedback.

When I first started seeing homeopathic doctor...he would confer with two
other people after the day was over...and they would learn from each other and
then people can see what they might be missing through another person's eyes.
It irks me to no end that my current homeopath doesn't share the experience of
finding remedies for me....I don't know why she gives me something. She won't
spell it out. I don't really like the authority/patient syndrome. Maybe it
is a matter of practicing for years and years and gaining confidence in how
one comes up with remedies, why they chose a particular remedy and can freely
relate that to others. i can understand how it is important when a homeopath
has a new patient who really has no idea about what homeopathy entails....and
not explaining too much and scaring them away.

What if something comes up after first remedy and I don't know what to do?

§ 249 Sixth Edition
Every medicine prescribed for a case of disease which, in the course of its action, produces new and troublesome symptoms
not appertaining to the disease to be cured, is not capable of effecting real improvement,
and cannot be considered as homoeopathically selected;
it must, therefore, either, if the aggravation be considerable, be first partially neutralized as soon as possible
by an antidote before giving the next remedy chosen more accurately according to similarity of action;
or if the troublesome symptoms be not very violent,
the next remedy must be given immediately, in order to take the place of the improperly selected one.
If you don't know or have the antidote, any remedy of same potency should stop the current action.
Hahnemann is saying this when he wrote "if the troublesome symptoms be not very violent,
the next remedy must be given immediately, in order to take the place of the improperly selected one."
There's no way of knowing if the "next remedy" will be curative or if you've properly selected it, but it will stop action of current remedy.
Also, I've read carbo veg ?? or another remedy is used to clear a case, so have some on hand.
I have used my constitutional to antidote wrong remedies or remedies that were taken too much.
Usually within a few hours I'm back to "normal" ;)

There is so much to think about Susan. You can't just read a part the Organon and draw a universal conclusion (for the most part). If it brings up questions the way Carol is thinking, I think that is more important. Not to get hysterical with a lack of self confidence, but to able to consider the options and to be able to lay out what is important in that particular case. There are not just a bunch of straightforward rules (except for the obvious one like don't give 2 remedies at once). There are strategies for different situations. Gettting sharp at identifying the situations and the possibilities are what I am aiming for. Things to watching out for because these possiblies are probable. I am not worrying about every possiblities, only the probable ones. Anyway, that's where I am now. Tomorrow I may be singing a slightly different tune.
That's called case analysis. Carol is right. It is very important. For discussion sake, more important that the "right remedy."

Hi Carol,
Aphorism 167 - “In cases of acute disease, if accessory ailments of some moment arise with the use of this first-employed, imperfectly homeopathic medicine, one should not let this first dose fully finish its work, abandoning the patient to the medicine’s full duration of action. Rather, one should examine anew the now altered disease state and bring the original symptoms that remain into connection with the newly arisen ones in order to record a new disease image” Decker
(“If significant new symptoms arise from the first imperfect medicine, do not wait for the medicine to finish its work. Select a second medicine based on the new disease image formed by the remaining original symptoms and the newly arisen ones”) Decker.
Atb,
Leilanae
