of a 6 week old baby with what appeared to be reflux with severe pain. The
child virtually sleepless at night, could not be comfortable lying flat has
to be put in reclining position.
Associated with pain and crying were hiccoughs occurring after feeds. The
child was still eager for feeds and was gaining weight. When asleep in carry
seat looked so calm and peaceful and was a treat to hold. However when in
pain the arms and legs flailed about wildly and there was a lot of head
movement.
I had given Mother Sepia because of exhaustion about 2 weeks previously.
Often good prescribing helps both Mother and baby. Following rubrics
St. Eructations with pain in abdomen
Pain violent
Hiccough after eating
Hiccough after nursing at breast Hyocyamus despite the picture
of currently peaceful baby seemed strong.
The Mother rang this am to say there had been a good night and that the baby
had no discomfort after any of the feeds today.
Interesting that mother was deserted by partner 2 weeks after conception
,dresses in revealing clothes ,but we are in the tropics, and frequently
felt hard done by. Currently happy in new relationship but feeling really
hassled by 4 year old son. I think if I had seen Hyocyamus and given that
to Mother earlier the situation would not have progressed.
Reflux is a common condition in babies now and difficult to treat
allopathically. Jean Doherty
