I once was looking through Chronic Diseases or Materia Medica under Belladonna
and came to a sentence in the provings that said something like looking at
erotica does nothing for the man(person?). Is this a rare and unusual symptom?
My mother had sciatica and begged her homeopathy doctor for something for the
pain, he had said he couldn't help her cause she had osteoporosis. But he
gave in and gave her belladonna and after two years of pain....it went away
and never came back. When many years later...she got alzheimers and I was
treating her....it came in handy several times during a fever and also
quieting her ravings in the last 10 years of her life.

So now my brother is in a lot of pain and won't go to a doctor or a
homeopath. Wants to cure himself. Sleeps in a chair due to the pain. Has a
chronic knee problem. Two days ago ..and he doesn't know what happened..he
fell flat on his body due to a misstep. I'd like to give him belladonna as
that semi-quote from the provings fits him to a T. Just not interested. When
dating years ago....he only wanted a woman who was into music and singing and
though a woman who was very sensual was after him...he wasn't interested
because she wasn't into singing. He is in his seventies. His only
emotional/mental response to his issues is he is worried about his
future...that he has to move where there are no steps, has to give up his life
long hobby of gardening, has to change his lifestyle at some point.

While not wanting to go to doctor, not wanting to ever go under the knife(an
affront to his body)and his worry about the future seem to be entirely
appropriate responses and not needing a remedy... can I take the belladonna to
the bank based on that one symptom. And one other symptom...severe cramps in
legs in bed in the morning for which he started magnesium and has corrected
that. I'm going to give him belladonna. I guess I'd like an
affirmation/confirmation. Or maybe someone saying...DON'T DO IT!

It may be for some people, but you can not chose a symptom of a remedy and apply it to a person- it is backwards.
Most well known remedies have more than 10,000 rubrics, Bell has over 11,000 so if you look you can find several rubtics that will fit ANY given person.
That is not homeopathy.

Homeopath involves collecting the main RELEVANT symptoms of an individual, for the CURRENT issue, and looking to see which remedy contains those specific symptoms as rubrics.

In homeopathy:
You do not look for remedy things (such as a Bell rubric) in a person (as you are doing).
You look for person things (actual current relevant symptoms taken together) in a remedy.
Finding the relevant person things - symptoma that are relevant - to look for, is step one.
What some remedy can do, is NOT relevant, - Bell can do over 11,000 things - even if it coincidentally has one rubric that looks familiar for the person in some way. It is homeopathy only if you use the symptoms of the patient to lead to the remedy - not the other way round

Irene is right. But I don't think you can hurt your brother by giving him something like 200c. The problem is whatever happens from there because he is not cooperative from the beginning will probably lead no where. It's as though you were playing with a slot machine.

It is wonderful that you care about your brother. I hope he knows that.

There are a couple of hundred remedies with diminished sexual desire. More important than the objective symptom is how the person/patient feels about it. One of my male Lyc. patients, having finally found the woman of his dreams, was having performance problems, which mortified him. His inability to commit in previous relationships finally caught up with him: now he was willing, at least mentally, but physically couldn't follow through.

Often the symptom that will lead you to the right remedy has nothing to do with your chief complaint. Being able to listen for the much more subtle symptom is key. I think being objective with myself or my own family is the most difficult. When working with chronic disease, I keep long term records of little things I notice. Then I wait for an acute flare up and take symptoms from there. With a patient who I don't know, it is much easier to be objective.

George Dimitriadis has a repertory for the Boenninghausen Repertory that he has edited beautifully so that it only contains the original work of Hahnemann's original apprentice, Constantine Boenninghausen. The simplicity of the Rep is wonderful. Unfortunately, it cost 350 dollars. Well worth it for a beginner because it is so simple.

With that, working with myself I am able to find the right remedy. With the huge modern repertory because it is so full of inaccuracies, and because it is so huge, it is really hard to find the right remedy. It takes a lot of skill and judgement related to the history of homeopathy, knowledge of the limits, analytical methods considering statistical chance.... The original repertory is much more straight forward. If you have a solid modality and a little descriptor rubric, you can find your remedy. A second solid modality for a second unrelated symptom will be very helpful.

George has a lecture on the same WHN site. Unfortunately, he is a scholar and is a bit dense. Hard to understand.
