The History of Homeopathy

Today I was looking at the broad sweep of the history of homeopathy. I notice that there were many intelligent and influential people like Mark Twain and Henry James in the nineteenth century who were big time homeopathy supporters. Now, not so much. In the 19th century, homeopathy was a going concern, it was a force to be reckoned with, in the United States. It is still a force to be reckoned with in India, Brazil and many other countries now. Why is this? Why is it that so many of our homeopathy customers have disappeared?
What happened to all of the homeopathy customers? Yes, you homeopaths here at minutus have customers, perhaps plenty of customers. But homeopathy thrived in the 19th century because the number of successes per 1 million customers was very high. Now, not so much.
The chorus of homeopathy customers/supporters has disappeared in the USA because homeopathy does not work as well in the USA as it does in say India with regard to successes per million customers. Why is this? Simple. It does not work as often for exactly the same reason that it did not work for me recently. I got a remedy that my homeopath, I, and several people here at minutus all agreed was perfect for me: sulfur 200 C. It did nothing to heal me from being an obnoxious and irritable hothead. It did not work (but I still had to pay for it, which could turn a person off from homeopathy.) I like to think that it worked because I believe in homeopathy and know that homeopathy is often spectacular. But in truth, any results I got from that sulfur 200 C would not have propelled me into the ranks of homeopathy customers/supporters/boosters (if I wasn't already there). It did not work because I had a maintaining cause, which was high carbs and wheat. I have fallen off the wagon enough times with regard to high carbs and wheat to know that that is what has caused me to be an irritable and obnoxious hothead for the past 40 or more years.
Multiply dietary maintaining causes by 330 million, and this is why homeopathy is not popular and why the customer base for homeopathy has shrunk to a very few people. Processed foods consumption greatly expanded over the past 120 years and the during the same time frame the homeopathy customer base shrunk. That is what happened, primarily.
Poor diet is the 666 pound gorilla in the room of health care, and it is the primary cause why homeopathy is considered a joke in so much of society. It is why so many people pay good money and get nothing out of it. It is why my sister-in-law paid over $500 and got exactly zip out of homeopathy. It is not that homeopathy is not spectacular and wonderful; it is that there is no and can be no compensation for a poor diet, even homeopathy.
Sincerely,
Roger Bird
