Born to alcoholic and drug user mum Update
Posted: Sat Oct 18, 2014 11:19 pm
During the consultation with this 6 yr. old his adopted mum told me she had found out that his birth mum was taking heroin, alcohol and methadone. The child had to be withdrawn from drugs. His milestones were late and he has a big gap between his front teeth and such a bad overbite (he is waiting to see an orthodontist) that his speech is very difficult to understand as most if the time – but not all of the time- he doesn’t try to get his top lip to reach bottom lip to make a B, F and P sound. A speech therapist wasn’t very helpful so because of what I have seen Mum will try to find a private speech therapist.
His behaviour in school is fine but not at home as he is destructive and fights with his brother (who incidentally is his real brother) Social Services reckons he has frontal brain damage from the drugs and Mum says he has made no recent progress in school but doesn’t appear aware of it. He is extremely restless and thrashes around in his sleep. Friendly child who keep asking questions constantly and draw me a picture which was extremely busy with every bit of space filled with something which he wished to label when I told him how to spell the word.
He is fearful of the dark because he sees a dark man with a hat on by the window in his room “looking like a zombie”. He is also fearful of an advert which apparently showed an evil doll which may have been advertising a film.
He has extensive psoriasis which started 4 or 5 months ago with one lesion on his arm which he then scratched on a nail after which mum said it spread. The psoriasis doesn’t appear to bother him- lots of red circle type plaques on his back and mum says it is in his hair – very flaky.
I decided to give him Syph 30 – 3 doses because I read it is good for children born to addicts and because of the bad overbite. It will be interesting to see if it does anything.
I am very open to other suggestions
Thanks
Rochelle

I have young children whose mother's used antihistamines daily through pregnancy. So I look at Nux v 30C to begin with.
Also, I am giving Nux v 200C every 2-4 weeks for paralysis because father gave baby meth/and alcohol.
If the pregnant mother used Benadryl, Ars. clears out this quite nicely. A 38 yr. patient's mother used Benadryl while pregnant and he has the side effects of the drug: easy bruising, nasal congestion, joint pain, difficult breathing, blurred vision, sleepiness, mental confusion, car sickness, anemia, difficult urine. Interestingly, I prescribed Ars 200C for his 60 yr. old mother. I didn't know her Benadryl history until later.
Blessings!
Paulette

Have got an adopted child coming in with psoriasis and possible ADHD. Adopted Mum knows that this child was born 6 weeks prem and had to be withdrawn from the alcohol and drug birth mum was taking. Adopted Mum has no idea what drugs were taken . Obviously I will be looking for a constitutional remedy for this child now age 6 but just wondered if there was any protocol anyone had used in cases where the child had to be withdrawn from alcohol and drugs at birth.
Thanks
