I have recently been accepted at a nursing school here in California. I need to make a decision. I have been excepted to two types of courses one is an accelerated bachelors degree course which will get me through the program in 18 months, but I have also been excepted as a two-year transfer student to a program that would take 2 1/2 years to complete. In each case I would get a BS in degree that is a bachelor of science in nursing. Michael if I do the nursing thing is to go for a advance degree such as to become a nurse practitioner in which case I can practice naturalpathy with further training going forward.

Another option I have been considering is to simply leverage my business background and try to work in the biotech industry. This would mean startups since I don't have a biology degree.

Does anyone have a perspective on working as a nurse and is it still really difficult to get jobs in nursing as a new grad?

As an RN, myself, I NEVER recommend anyone go to nursing school - NEVER

You will have to submit to any vaccine they determine you will need and there are many. And your training will be all allopathic and will have to give vaccines and drugs.

I never recommend you do all of that so you can later practice naturally. I recommend going to chiropractic school or acupuncture/chinese medicine, or naturopathy school, or homeopathy and learn natural from the beginning without having to submit to harmful allopathic vaccines and have to harm patients in the long run.

You do not need a nursing degree to do any of the above.

my understanding is that nursing is still a good bet for getting work that pays decently.
of course different regions will have their own individual culture. so check out the regions
that interest you.

it really depends on what you want to do in your life. if practicing is your interest then you
have your answer.

Two friends are nurses, one loves her work in many ways but wants to quit as it is killing her health and the allopathy forced to be used is killing her enjoyment of the neonatal unit where she works.....
Her husband is a nurse too and his back is shot from a past injury plus lifting heavy patients, and after three back surgeries witih no relief, he is forced to stop.

Does not seem to be a healthy profession for its workers - and it is very strict rule forced allopathy. Isn't that the highest cause of death in USA. I think it is. You get to participate in that.

What type of work would you do in biotech startups?
You may want to consult with a certified Life Coach to help guide you as you have mixed interests.
I know of a young woman in the Los Angeles area, 2012 college grad, if interested.
I worked in high tech as a computer engineer and liked the fast paced environment, being up on latest technology. The work environment was fun when younger, but not for me now.
I also spend time following stocks and financial.
Biotech is a growth area. Celgene, Regeneron, Gilead are current hot companies and there a new ones all the time.
Nursing is growing too in the USA because our large baby boomer population is aging.
If going into nursing, nurse practitioner is more valuable since they can write prescriptions.
Not sure if an NP legally allows you to prescribe homeopathic remedies for illness, which only MDs are allowed to do in most states (?)
You want a career that is personally satisfying but also can provide income during economic downturns and not subject to layoffs, cutbacks, etc. like high tech is. Microsoft recently announced laying off 18,000 employees the next few months.
We will be having another downturn, worse than 2008, coming up. Target announced today negative outlook for rest of year, if you can read between the lines. Whole Foods did similar last week.
You don't want to be saddled with large student loan debt and not have a job to pay monthly payments along with needing money to pay for rent, food, fun, etc. as all these prices are going up.
