I agree 110% with t. You could not pay me enough to get me to eat vasoline. And I find it difficult to reconcile the fact that someone suggested it on this forum.

Me too.
Who suggested eating vaseline? Did they suggest other condiments to eat with it as well?
Sadly, I missed that post :-(

In my own post I suggested coating eggs with vaseline as one way they'd keep longer out of the fridge. It's a traditional method on cruising sailboats.
Of course you would wash that off before you crack the eggs and eat them, but I thought, in an intelligent forum like this one, that was obvious without stating it:-)

Oh golly, no one was saying to eat vaseline!!!!!

The mention of vaseline (I forget by whom) was as a thought about how to re-seal eggs that had been washed. The suggestion of coconut oil led to the reply of "Would you eat it?" NOT (as I read it) meaning that you *should* eat eggshells, with or without coconut oil (please, NO ONE was saying to eat eggshells either! though it is useful to make a broth from them, but never mind that…).

The point, as I read it, was simply that, if you're not going to eat them, why not use something (perhaps cheaper or for some people more available? tho that was not said; and perhaps more durable? tho that also was not said) like vaseline. I don't know why vaseline, I'm just pointing out that, for heaven's sake, no one said anything about eating vaseline!!!!!

Or eggshells.

(retires grumbling…)

Shannon, the statement was made by Irene about coconut oil about it dripping off.
I guess that implied it could get into the food.

I stated that I would never use vasoline under any circumstances. It is a petroleum based product.

Most people I know, do not store their eggs in food.
SO I am not sure how your egg sealant would get into food. I forgot to allow for people storing their eggs in food I suppose.
My own thinking was that if a too-thin oil fell off, it would not do much sealing.
I apologize for trying to be logical.
