There was a program on NPR(National Public Radio) a couple of weeks ago that
said there was no proof that fish oils have any effect on the brain. Anyone
want to comment?

I suppose anyone is allowed to have an opinion.
I prefer to go by research when looking for facts.

This for example, hot off the press this year:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24478369

[REF: J Neurosci. 2014 Jan 29;34(5):1903-15. doi: 10.1523/JNEUROSCI.4043-13.2014.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids Protect the Brain against Ischemic Injury by Activating Nrf2 and Upregulating Heme Oxygenase 1.
Zhang M, Wang S, Mao L, Leak RK, Shi Y, Zhang W, Hu X, Sun B, Cao G, Gao Y, Xu Y, Chen J, Zhang F.

Abstract
Ischemic stroke is a debilitating clinical disorder that affects millions of people, yet lacks effective neuroprotective treatments. Fish oil is known to exert beneficial effects against cerebral ischemia...............]

Also
[Fish oil improves motor function, limits blood-brain barrier disruption, and reduces Mmp9 gene expression in a rat model of juvenile traumatic brain injury.

Also
[ω-3 fatty acids in the prevention of cognitive decline in humans.

Adv Nutr. 2013 Nov 6;4(6):672-6. doi: 10.3945/an.113.004556. eCollection 2013 Nov.]

.....
And that is just three of the 1,939 peer reviewed scinetific studies showing benefit of fish oil for the brain in various ways, in the National Library of Medicine.

Namaste,
Irene

My own experience shows that fish oil can save your life. What "effect on the brain" means is I am not sure.

When you start to have real life experience with what you eat and drink, then you can sort out what is real and what is not real. Before that, you are just taking someone's word for it, whether that person be Dr. Oz or NPR or the pharmaceutical shills or me.

I am typing here now because I didn't kill myself about 11 years ago, thanks to fish oil. My wife will go into an ugly and almost psychotic depression if I don't get her to take her fish oil. She went dancing tonight, and I called her an reminded her that she forgot to take her fish oil; she promised to take it tomorrow.

People can say any thing that they want to, but I know from experience what is what.
