The Four Remedy Reactions, Part 4, Natural Healing Crisis
The four remedy reaction is a natural healing crisis. This is the
return of old unresolved disease states and suppressions during the process
of cure. These symptoms follow Hahnemann's direction of cure, commonly
called Hering's Laws. The return of old symptoms is a sign that the remedy
is acting deeply on the vital force and that the timeline by which the
disease developed in reversing. These symptoms should not be stronger than
or more prolonged than the original incident. In fact, they should be
shorter and much milder and pass through quickly. If the return of symptoms
involves intense pain and suffering it is a similar aggravation. This means
that the size of the dose (pills, drops, or teaspoons) is too large, the
potency is incorrect (usually too high), and the remedy was given when it
was not necessary to speed the cure. To ameliorate these problems on
follows the basic instructions given in Part 1 of this series, Similar
Aggravations.
There are also times when a homoeopathic remedy will cause an increase
in action of the organs of elimination, the immune system, or cause a mild
fever or malaise. Such a condition should be mild, pass through quickly,
and be followed by an increase in the sense of well being, a reduction of
symptoms, and an increase in vitality. The vital force many also produce a
surrogate elimination when it can not reestablish the original symptoms.
For example, an old sycotic may not be able to reproduce the original
gonorrheal discharge from 25 years ago but they will develop a catarrhal
discharge from some orifice that has the classic yellow-green color and
fishy odor. When symptoms of this type appear they should pass through
quickly and be followed by a progressively amelioration.
