Irene, you mentioned in the "avoid food" column soy...I just bought a fish oil
today and noticed it said under ingredients that it has natural tocopherols
soy. But it has a large amount of DHA...580 mgs per two softels...more so than
other fish oils that I inquired about at nearby stores. Do I want to find a
fish oil with no soy in it at all?

My take on this is that the soy left from the process is all fat - no protein, which is where the toxic factors live. Virtually all Vit E supplements are chemically derived from soy, and you will often see this listed as a preservative. Almost all fish oil is concentrated, too, unless you buy one of the liquid "squoze fish" brands, and this means it can come from farmed fish with really lousy fat profiles, but the good acids are concentrated from them anyway, and sold in "high-potency" formulas. Terribly wasteful, among other problems. I use liquid fish oils, and krill, if I need capsules.

I'm not a fan of soy, but this situation doesn't bother me, and doesn't seem to affect me or my dogs, so I don't try to avoid it when used as a preservative.

I try to avoid any product that derives from soy or corn due to the GE nature of these foods
unless the manufacturer will assure using food that is not GMO. This means calling them to ask
as there is no labeling to tell you.
Sugar beets are now GE permitted so this also has to be considered when chosing supplements.
