Hi Friends,
I am treating a 20-year-old girl who has not had a period for four years.
She has been doing very well on the remedy I chose since November--all her
other emotional and physical symptoms have improved, but she still has not
had a menstrual period. Since she is doing so well, improving with each
follow-up, I feel that she would eventually get her menses back. However,
she is getting advice from her mother and the school nurse that she should
go on hormone therapy to speed this up.

I am concerned about the disruptive effect this might have on her
homeopathic healing process, and am not sure how much time I can buy, as the
young woman herself is leaning strongly toward trying the hormones.
However, she said she would like to know opinions from other homeopaths, so
I am hoping for helpful feedback from some of you. She wondered
specifically whether the hormones would reverse the progress she has made,
or just slow down further progress--I said I wasn't sure.

Any experiences others may have had with this issue would be very useful, as
well as references from any books.

You say her emotional and physical symptoms improved....emotionally
is she anorexic? physically is she obese? What trauma if any was
suffered at the time of the last period? These are usually key in
amenorrhea cases and must be addressed.
I have not returned periods of such a long duration, but have seen
them return after a 1 1/2 year absence. I used the appropriate remedy
(she was a myriad of other symptoms so the remedy is not germaine to
your case) and included twice daily transdermal estrogen creme. Very
fast results, suffered no side effects and this may be used 1st
before the HRT.

I'm not sure whether I'm on the right thread but somebody was enquiring
about treating amenorrhea. Well, I've had numerous successful cases over the
years using Senecio. One case was a long distance runner.

i treated a woman once, about age 38, who had not had a menstrual period for many years (5-6). i had given her sepia at that time which worked quite well--of course the other sx matched.

Dear Charlotte
I have treated 2 young patients successfully
with this problem and with both I used the indicated constitutional remedy
(one was Silica and the other Foll.) + Agnus Castus Herbal Tincture 10-20
drops 3 x a day. With both it took a few months before the menses was
reatablished. Funnily enough I had another in yesterday and have prescribed
on the same principle.

You don't mention the possibility of other exciting and maintaining cuases,
like excessive physical athleticism, which often causes amenorrhea
especially in strong, overconditioned young women. As someone else
mentioned, anorexia can also have this effect. Have these possibilities
been investigated?

If periods are not coming irrespective of her constitutional
improvements,causes may be 1.there may be ovarin cysts and ovulution may
not be taking place.2. she may be Hypothyroid patient.You should asses her
reg above points .She should under go ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis
to know her condition of her overies.She should under go thyroid function
tests ie estimation T3,T4 AND TSH to know ,she is Thyroid pt are not.
Harmonal treatment with knowing above points will complicate her systm .She
may develop unwanted hair growth on face and chin, variety of drug symptoms.
I have treated number of cases taking into consideration of pathology and
symptoms succesfully.Only you may have to select deep acting nosodes to
manage pathology and followed by constitutional remedies .

Thanks to Rochelle, Tanya, Anthony, Sue, and Ramachandra for feedback about
the young woman I'm treating, whose overall state and all symptoms are
improving so far except her amenorrhea. It is interesting to hear other's
experiences with this. However, my inclination and belief from past
experience is that all her problems will eventually be resolved by this
remedy, as it seems to be correct by all means of assessment. I have no
wish to change her remedy--I would like show patience and convince her to do
the same.

My real question is about people's experience with hormones in conjunction
with homeopathy, as I am hoping to discourage her from going this route, at
least for awhile longer. What side-effects have people seen from hormonal
therapy itself? (Thanks, Dr. Ramachandra, for addressing this issue.) Have
practitioners seen specific interfering effects from the hormones on the
correct remedy? This is the information my client needs in order to make a
decision.

Dr. Ramachandra--I feel that even if she has thyroid problems or ovarian
problems, the simillimum will help with those pathologies as well, as my
understanding is that I am treating the energetic state, identified by the
specific symptoms, rather than disease entities.

1 my experience with harmones in conjunction with homoeopathy, harmones or
any allopathic medicine in diseases like DM,HPT or even vitamins is
obstructive to quick action of homoeopathic medicines.Medicines do act but
not smoothly,action gets exahausts earlier than expected.Symptoms get mixed
up for further follow up.
2.By knowing under lying patholgy, You can convince patient of futility of
harmone treament.You can select a simillimum which has an affinity for that
organ. It is true we are not treating disease entities but those
pathologies also should become part of our totality.Any way you can follow
your way of selecting simillimum and manage the case in hand.Every
practioner has his/her way of managing with in the tennets of Hn.

came across this old case question of yours today and was wondering how you made out with the young woman and her menses. i had one case of a woman, in her late 30's at the time who had not had a period for almost 10 years. i had given her sepia which worked very well.
