https://startpage.com/eng/ is a FREE private search engine.
Currently they are beta testing StartMail encrypted email.

(While listening to the video I did hear mention of medical information/records.)

Startpage.com uses Google and is just as fast and thorough but doesnt allow google to track your searches (and hand them over to whoever wants it).
Startmail is planning to be equally opaque to the spys but it is only in beta so far.
