I cannot verify the truth of this.............I have tried to find the source of this and seems to link back to http://worldtruth.tv/usda-forces-whole- ... -monsanto/ in 2012 (though the article I posted was 2013). I'm not sure why it has been published (or what the agenda is, but I can't find anything to back it up.

I apologize for sending it.

Please ignore.

This is NEW - this week - not from the past, like I thought at first......................

The title of the article says USDA forced but I see no force described, only collusion and capitulation
Time to boycott Whole Foods - which is hard because many places that is all you have.

Can order much online and find other sources for organic produce and meat - local sources when at all possible.

And also follow through with what it says in the article by signing petition at the end

USDA Forces Whole Foods To Accept Monsanto - I don't think this title is accurate - doesn't look like USDA forced anything

"In the wake of a 12-year battle to keep Monsanto's Genetically Engineered (GE) crops from contaminating the nation's 25,000 organic farms and ranches, America's organic consumers and producers are facing betrayal.

A self-appointed cabal of the Organic Elite, spearheaded by Whole Foods Market , Organic Valley , and Stonyfield Farm , has decided it's time to surrender to Monsanto. Top executives from these companies have publicly admitted that they no longer oppose the mass commercialization of GE crops, such as Monsanto's controversial Roundup Ready alfalfa, and are prepared to sit down and cut a deal for "coexistence" with Monsanto and USDA biotech cheerleader Tom Vilsack.

In a cleverly worded, but profoundly misleading email sent to its customers last week, Whole Foods Market, while proclaiming their support for organics and "seed purity," gave the green light to USDA bureaucrats to approve the "conditional deregulation" of Monsanto's genetically engineered, herbicide-resistant alfalfa. Don’t worry. Whole Foods needs careful watching anyway. Why is it taking 5 yrs to get their labeling
corrected on suppliers who have already agreed to work with WF.

I get a lot of organic and healthy food at Costco, and I don't pay an arm and a leg. I get organic red delicious apples for just under $.90 per pound. I only got to Whole Paycheck if I absolutely positively have to.

You really need to question such food at places like Costco. There is much afoul in the ag-industry
trying to control the organic market. Many of the large farms use toxic chemicals that they got
approved for use under organic standards. That doesn’t make them organic; it only means they
use political power to corrupt the standards. There is also the question of imported food and who
really monitors it. Like from China—we know the toxic nature of that country today and organics in
China are difficult to say the least. Cannot trust anything coming from them that says organic. I
found a Vit C product that is certified in this country that it is non-GMO, but there has never been
a test of it here, so what does that tell you. Apples, corn, grapes, etc—same story.
As financially limited as I am now, I will still buy local where I know the farmers or from food coops
where the folks who buy research the products.

On the other hand, Costco does seem to be doing some things right; the comparisons with WalMart's Sam's Club, for instance, are interesting.

I don’t know what you mean by ‘right.’ If these big box stores buy thru distributors servicing
Big Ag, there is no doing it right. Those Big Af farms are notorious for trying to squash the
organic standards. Further, many smaller farms that sell to central processors have been
caught lying about their practices. Horizon is one of them. And there is no control over knowing
how much aberration of organic standards is ongoing with them

True, about big agri. Small farms just can't compete unless they are subsidized, which I agree with.

Need to read more on the Farm Bill which, as usual, is very controversial. Food stamps took
a big hit. Presumable there is program consolidation. Chris Gibson, my Rep in Congress, wrote
a long letter to my contacting him. He listed all these decent sounding things he supported in
the bill, with no mention of what he didn’t support. However, the devil is in the details and he
avoided all of those. I suspect is all bodes ill for small farmers, organic farmers and the public.

I'm with you! Since I have the fortune to be living the the SF Bay Area right now, I have access to reasonably priced, high quality organic produce. I have no need for "Who,e Paycheck" unless I a, back in NYC.

Have to keep repeating that big box stores buy from big agribiz and you have no idea whether
their food is organic or not or even where it comes from so you cannot check. You may be
spending a lot of money on conventionally grown food that is increasingly gmo.
