Dear all, here is another case from Rochelle, it would be really nice if
lots of people would contribute to the cases - any constructive comments are
always appreciated. Best wishes, Joy Lucas
----------
From: "rochelle"

This is my second problem case this week. Now I realise that this appears to
be a badly taken case but it was soooo difficult. She was a nervous woman
and never stopped talking and I was having difficulty following what was
going on. It was as if she presumed I knew her history. I was also repping
the case as I was going along and have found Fear of robbers in my rep but
not in my written notes!!
I gave the woman Psor. 30C WP to take 3x a day with 5 succussions 29/April.
She is continuing with the anti histamines when the itching is bad and she
is due another. I have spoken to her tonight and things don't seem any
better. She is in absolute despair with the itching and has now come out
with 9 red spots on one knee (I forgot to ask which) and one on the other.
She can't bear underwear on as it is irritating her. She is taking cool
baths with bicarb in. She couldn't go to her friend's for long as the
heating was on making the itching worse. She is still talking about her
anger about this partner and that it all started with him. I have told her
to increase succussions to 10 and that if she wakes at 1 am like she did
last night itching she is to take a Psor. 30 pillule and she is to phone me
tomorrow to tell me how she is doing and to note if there was any
improvement after the pillule. She is also going to use the EFT techniques I
showed her. Again she said the itch is better when she is busy.

I also see a lot of Ars. here but Ars is > heat. She hasn't mentioned the
word burning to me.

I have also looked at Dolichos but don't have any!!
The case!!

Background
This 66 year woman d.o.b. 01-06-36 presented as a thin, nervous lady. She
talked all the time but had to do it a long way round. I had difficulty
following the story she was telling me until we did a timeline. She had back
hair, going grey at the sides, which had been badly home coloured. She had
no make up on and all the time appeared to be scratching her hands. There
was a red rash on her chin but didn't mention it.

29th April 2002
PC is lumpy raised rash on various parts of the body .
"I've had this rash since I had a domestic in January. My doctor wants me
to use this scabies cream but the instructions say you can itch for 4 weeks.
Acrivastine anti histamine helps for a few hours.."
She takes Bendrofluozide for hypertension. Also takes HRT and Citramol for
depression.

She is very restless, maybe because of the itchy rash - mainly on her
buttocks where it appears as a few lumps. Also she itches where there is no
eruption. There are blotches where she scratches.
"I am a basket case. If I ever come in contact with him I'd stick a knife
in." She was referring to an ex partner that she was with for 11 years, the
first 6 loving with him. She met him after her husband died and he got her a
job at the gas board. "We use to have such lovely holidays abroad together.

'79 husband died, '86ish started living with J. '97 stopped living with him
but was still seeing him until she threw him out in Jan '02.

"I didn't want him to be around me as there was nothing left anymore
sexually. The night before we broke up it was in my house. He's sitting back
and something went ding up her (pointed to her head.) He said you are
talking to me like a dog, don't you think you are getting rid of me. I ran
out with my keys round my fingers. He pinned me back from the stairs and
trapped my fingers in the keys and I couldn't breathe. The skin split in my
fingers and I said I didn't want to see him any more. I had waited on him
hand and foot."

She can't stand the heat indoors as it makes the rash worse.

"This has left me feeling lonely. I have never been on my own for long
periods of time. I am just finding myself on my own."

Food - Eats a lot and anything but not spicy. Loves bread. Dislikes
tomatoes. " I don't think chocolate agree with me but I like it. I try not
to eat it. (How does it disagree?)

Sleep - wakes at 5am

She has had an op on nose for breathing about 15 yr. ago but is very vague
about details.

Neurotic, restless and doesn't like her own company.

Says she is a born worrier especially about her health.

"I think I have SAD syndrome. I prefer to be outdoors than in."

Extremities - circulation poor. Has cold feet.

Very neat and tidy.

Eyes - has the start of cataracts.

"Frightened that I won't be the person I used to be when nothing was a
problem to me. I have let myself go to pot. I have never been like this. I
can't even be bothered to wash my hair."

"I hate dark things about me. My bedroom is white."

She said that she was still upset about the death of her husband but I didn'
t get any more details since this isn't relevant at this time.

Knees - just started getting arthritis > moving.

She says that she has always scratched herself (her body) with her fingers.
I noticed that she was continually scratching her hands. It was sort of like
a Kali Brom thing.

Family Medical History
Grandmother d. 49 - brain haemorrhage
Mother d. 85 - old age

Dear Rochelle, initially this seems to be a clear cut case of STAPHYSAGRIA

from Boericke:-

nervous affections with marked irritability and diseases of the GU tract and
skin

ill effects of anger and insults

sexual sins(!) and excesses

very sensitive

violent outbursts of passion

dwells on sexual matters (gave him up when the sex finished)

indignant (I had waited on him hand and foot)

hypochondriacal

hungry even when full - wants stimulants

skin dry and violently itchy

scratching changes location of itching

muscles feel bruised

extremities feel beaten

joints feel stiff
PS it mught be worth checking just to make sure she hasn't actually got
scabies (but Staph. covers this anyway like it does lice)

best wishes, Joy

Dear Joy,
I believe you are right!!!! I just couldn't see the wood for the trees and
didn't look hard enough on the causation, concentrating too much on the
physicals. Yes Staph is in my rep but far down and it comes up for the same
no.of Rubrics but higher number of points than Psor.!!! My top rubric was
itching, heated becomes agg.
Have just found:-
HEAT, vital lack of, and warmth agg (41) and Staph is there.

In Murphy I had found Murphy - Skin
ERUPTIONS itching, eruptions heat, agg. (1)
3 KALI-I

She is thin but reading the Rx I didn't pursue it.

The woman lives quite a way from me but will be popping in on Tues. so I
will have the Staph ready!! The problem now is how to prescribe keeping in
mind all the other medications she is on. Maybe a 200 followed by 6 a couple
of times daily.

Any ideas on this one??

Regards and thanks again Joy,
Rochelle

Dear Rochelle, it might be worth checking the side effects of her
medications just to make sure they are not contributing to the cause - if
not -, it is always difficult when clients are taking medications they
cannot come off quickly. Personally I would be happier with only one potency
- the emotions are very strong (this is where the ailment is coming from)
but you have to consider the meds and any possible <<< of the rash. I think
I would stick with a 30 but it has to be your choice really.

Let us know how she gets on if you can

best wishes, Joy

Rochelle,
I didn't read the whole case but since you are dealing with so many meds
how about trying LM's

Good thinking Donna but when you have about 500 Rx in C potencies you really
don't want to start a collection of LM's!!!!! I find that a Water Potency
does the same job.

One of these days I may change my mind and use LM's but not at the moment!!

Thanks for your suggestion anyway.

All the best

Dear Joy ,
I ALWAYS check whatever drugs a patient is on in my BNF. e.g. I had a
patient in a couple of months ago whose PC was blood tests that showed a
thyroid problem and the thyroxine that the doctor had given her wasn't
making any difference. Incidentally she had no symptoms what so ever from
the so called thyroid problem. So why was she tested for it? She is also
taking some heart drugs after an angioplasty and guess what I found in the
BNF? The fact that this particular medication can cause thyroid
deficiencies!! She went away with no remedy and a happy woman who was going
to ask her specialist to change the heart medication for one thatdid not
have this side effect!!

Re the Staph. - yes I may well give her 30 but it will have to be repeated
(I prefer by WP succussed) to get through her medication. When I have got
her though this lot I hope to attempt to get rid of firstly the HRT (she is
66) and secondly the anti depressant.

Here is the Follow up for this case of the excitable woman with the itch
which was driving her to despair. I had given her Psorinum which did nothing
and thanks to the suggestion of Staph. from Joy (thank you so much) which I
completely missed you can see the result! This lady does have a long way to
go so I hope she will continue coming.

Regards, Rochelle
------------------------------------
30th May 2002
J seemed so much calmer, less excitable. She was also not talking as much.
Since I saw her last and gave her the Staph 30 she has taken herself off the
anti depressants. She has been off them 10 days. She looked more groomed and
looked as if she had put on a bit of weight around her face, which she
needed.

I noticed her scratching her head but she didn't mention the skin until I
did!!

Food- eating lots of nuts. She is taking 7 Seas Tonic.

She went to the Doctor and he said, "Make it quick as I've had a terrible
day". She was not impressed!!

We talked again about her ex-partner and she admitted that she was scared to
answer him back or punch him back. She said she would never punch anyone.
She was strict with her kids -"Not that it does them any harm." "I feel
revengeful against him in that I want to deposit his clothes that are still
in my house on his sister's doorstep. Why should I get rid of them?"

I noticed that she often put her hand at her chin, which was where there was
a rash last time.

Sleep - "I'm taking a bit of a sleeping tablet, a quarter and was annoyed
when I woke up after an hour last night. I did go back to sleep."

"I've bucked myself up now. I'm a house proud person."

Skin - There are still big lumps on her buttocks. Now and again she gets the
urge to scratch at her skin although there is nothing there. This will cause
red marks. While she was with me she had an urge to scratch her back and we
tapped the urge away with EFT. It is still, heat of a room but not the heat
from the sun. She is still taking the anti histamines now and again.

She likes to be in fresh air and now says that she is "not over hot". Her
nose is always freezing and she says that she has circulation problems. It
is difficult to get a straight answer out of her about this.

She talked about her son in law, who is a gambler and she had lent him some
more money rather than him take out a loan. Her daughter has a Down's
syndrome child.

She has been on HRT for 15 years and doesn't want to come off it because it
will make her breasts even smaller. She is 68 tomorrow. She still has a
bleed she the HRT and feels this is natural.

Hands- she is getting pain in her 4th finger of the right hand at the
knuckle and it is swollen. It looks like arthritis.

Analysis

The Staph seems to have done a lot for this woman. She seems a different
person. However much of this will be due to her coming off the anti
depressants. The itchiness is still there and it is in this remedy. It is
obviously better than when I saw her last as it was driving her demented
then and it was me that brought up the subject this time. I think this
itching is something that has gone on for years and isn't there when she is
occupied. I found Revengeful as a 1 in one rep and inflamed finger joints
as a 2. I look on the wishing to continue to take the HRT as a wish for
eternal youth and a fear of getting old. If she gets more confidence in
herself maybe she will agreed to come off it.

Prescription
Staph 200 - 1 dose + Nettle in a Herbal Tincture (anti- histamine and
nervine)

daer rochelle, i don't know how old you are, but as i read the last few
lines of your long posting, see below, i was surprised. most of the world
worships youth and throws away elders, especially women elders, as though
they are garbage. i write this from the usa, where this is especially true.
i know it is not true of some countries and cultures, so i write from the
one i know best, the usa. hrt is pushed and pushed and pushed. i don't know
the figures of how many women take it. also, women are the poorest in this
country and elder women especially. called the feminization of poverty. and
so many women have internalized the ageism. i don't think fear of becoming
old and wanting to stay on hrt is a srp symptom. my guess is every woman in
the usa has it. and from what i know of the united kingdom, your culture is
like ours in these respects. sheila
I look on the wishing to continue to take the HRT as a wish for
