Vitamin A & Measles

Measles seems to wipe out Vitamin A stores (one of the symptoms that shows this, is light sensitivity of the eyes). The children who have complications may have low Vitamin A to begin with, and the with measles, wipes out what they have.

Need higher doses in a drop (5,000 units per drop) so that you can give the higher amount when first come down with measles (20 drops = 100,000 units; 40 drops = 200,000 units)

Can give those high doses for 2 days only with measles
REMEMBER 200,000 IU per day for 2 days ONLY is for during measles
OTHERWISE around 1500 IU per day depending on weight - see charts in this email
(the actually give this with MMR in some 3rd world countries but not UK or US)

Dosage for children with measles 200,000 IU (100,000 IU in infant) Vitamin A per day for 2 days
I am finding out October 2007 that the best source for this is mycelized Vitamin C (Vitamin D removed)..........still researching

Maintainance Dosage - best thru diet and/or Cod liver oil - smaller amounts - around 1500 IU's depending on their weight per Mary Megsen, MD http://www.megson.com/jan10/jan10.html
