Based on post Hurricane Irene queries to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in Gloucester Point, Virginia, one impact remains a mystery -- what are all those "gray blobs" floating atop waterways and strewn along beaches?
If people become sick from the particular bacteria that has been harvested in them, it could prove to be helpful.
If we don't experience a similar storm they might not be available again for a proving

Has anybody encountered one while walking the beaches lately?

There was, and still is, a lot of mold affecting homes and properties.
Don’t know if these Potato Sponges are unique to that area, or are wide spread
as in NY City where they have just begun to do some clean up and rebuilding.
