1. The Homeopathic Option for Whooping Cough

We mentioned Dr Larry Malerba's article, The Homeopathic Option for Whooping Cough, a couple of newsletters back. Now it is being carried by the Huffington Post.

Larry lists just six of the remedies that may be used by homeopaths for whooping cough, but, as many commented when we last ran this story, his suggestion of using antibiotics even when the disease is being well-managed by a homeopathic remedy overlooks the new problems they can introduce. Still, it is good to see people speaking out in favour of homeopathy.

Homeopathic clinics here in Australia have been full of whooping cough cases in recent years, and it has made little difference whether the child was vaccinated or not. Homeopathy is one treatment and preventative option that should be looked at more closely by our healthcare authorities.

2. Homeopathy, Rabbit Plagues, and Nazi Germany

Is anyone facing a rabbit plague? Maybe homeopathy can help. In Sue Young Histories, tucked amongst other fascinating information on what happened with homeopathy during Nazi Germany, we found the following:

"In 1924, Rudolf Steiner prepared a homeopathic remedy from a dead male rabbit to remove a plague of rabbits from the estate of Count Keyserling in Silesia. Within three days, all of the rabbits on the estate had fled towards the distant wastelands and marshes and rabbits were rarely seen on the estate for years to come."

Does this mean that that other potentised pests and vermin will always remove a plague of that same pest? Or that potentised rabbit will always remove a rabbit plague? Sadly, no - it's not as simple as that. Find out why…

As witnessed in other areas of homeopathy, including agrohomeopathy, the potentised "cause" cannot be automatically used as a reliable or routine form of treatment. For example, potentised aphid does not remove aphid infestations (Coccinella, the potentised ladybird is needed for this problem) even though potentised snail will work for snail colonies.

When treatment by the potentised cause does work, subsequent investigation shows that similia (similarity between symptoms of substance and "patient") was still responsible for its effectiveness - ie., the homeopathic effect. If that is not present, a positive response will not follow.

In our bunny example, while potentised rabbit worked for Count Keyserling, it will not automatically work in different environments, different rabbit populations and under different circumstances. Still, if you are desperate, it is worth a try and the odds are in your favour. Good luck!

3. A Homeopathic History of Malaria

Sue Young lists some of the many associations homeopathy has with malaria - past and present, in treatment and prevention, and by the well-known or obscure.

Read of the experiences of Hahnemann, Elizabeth Wright Hubbard, Albert Schweitzer, Mother Theresa, and many more in using homeopathy to treat this disease. Fascinating reading and quite a legacy!

5. Do Antibiotics Make People Fat?

Have antibiotics contributed to the obesity epidemic which is now such a problem in the West? Most likely, according to recent research.

The killing of gut bacteria by antibiotics has now been linked to type II diabetes, metabolic syndrome, inflammation, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, AND obesity … and trying to replace the hundreds of strains we are meant to have by a few from a probiotic will not fully repair the damage.

In contrast, homeopathy preserves gut bacteria as it treats infections including pre-existing gut dysbiosis. For your gut’s sake, and many other bits and pieces, it makes good sense to use homeopathy first, keeping antibiotics as a last resort.

6. Former Skeptic Now a True Believer

US homeopath Joette Calabrese tells the story of Constantine Hering, the father of American homeopathy.

Constantine was a brilliant medical student who was asked by his professor to write a paper discrediting homeopathy - something Hering started with enthusiasm.

After two years of examining the precepts of homeopathy, and after being cured of gas grangrene by it, Hering eventually had to declare that homeopathy worked. He finished his medical studies and then began to practice it.

This was followed by a sea voyage from his native Germany to the new Americas, a shipwreck at Martha’s Vineyard, and the rest, as they say, is history.

7. Treating Trauma, Naturally

Homeopathy is certainly useful – even for those living under the constant mental stress and strain of rocket attacks.

Jerusalem homeopath Natalie has been asked which remedies and treatments she would recommend. Homeopathy makes the list – read her response in the The Jerusalem Post to find out why.

8. “Who” Knew: Homeopathy for Ringing Ears

Pete Townsend from the legendary rock band The Who suffers from tinnitus, or ringing in the ears.

He tells David Letterman he used to turn his headphones to full volume and that his band was listed as the "loudest in the world". No wonder his hearing suffered and he developed tinnitus!

Fortunately, it is much improved with homeopathic treatment. Hear about this and other stories from Pete in the Letterman interview.

9. Practical Homeopathy for Midwives

Calling all UK midwives ... would you like to learn how homeopathy can be used for problems during pregnancy, labour and birth?

The Faculty of Homeopathy is running a Practical Homeopathy for Midwives course in January 2013. It will cover basic principles of homeopathy, safety issues in pregnancy, information about common simple remedies to use, how to access further training and much more.

10. Family Homeopathy: Food Intolerance

Dr Yurukova lists the common symptoms of a food intolerance and tells how it can even lead to weight gain. (Did you know a milk intolerance can lead to an extra 30lbs a year?)

She then provides a list of some of the homeopathic remedies known to treat or improve intolerances.

As with any longstanding complaint, though, food intolerance are just a small part of a much bigger chronic problem. To get to the bottom of them it is best to see a qualified homeopath who will choose a remedy that matches your overall symptom picture, as this is the remedy that will produce the best results for you.
