Autism Recovery with Homeopathy, 5 yo boy

When I read about this case below and how the information was presented, it brought up numerous issues that we face in homeopathy.
Firstly, that the right remedy and methodology brings about results that are miracles, for patients, family and practitioner but they are also a miracle for the methodology that triggered this response. This type of miracle is the type of outcome we want to see in the majority of our cases, and the type of result we should expect to see, where our methodology is sound and consistent.
Secondly the post brought up the idea of being a pioneer. What is a pioneer? The definition of a pioneer is “one who opens up new areas of thought, research, or development”. Many claim to be pioneers in homeopathy. Recently I was told via a homeopathic software rep, that there are more than 100 methodologies within homeopathy. Why does a profession need more than 100 methodologies? The answer to this is because practitioners are not getting the results, or more importantly the consistency of results, that the methodology they have been taught allows.
I believe there are three true pioneers in homeopathy; Samuel Hahnemann, Clemens Von Boenninghausen and Grant Bentley. Each has given thought, research and development to homeopathy and each in their own way extended upon the ideas of others, while at the same time offering new thought and application. Hahnemann gave us the law of similars (from Paracelsus), potentisation of dose (his original idea), provings, totality, and the concept of something more in chronic illness, (miasms). Boenninghausen (one of Hahnemann’s closest confidants and friends) extended Hahnemann’s work by categorising all the information from the provings into a repertory, focusing on generalising symptoms, and also asking the important question – how can pathology be the basis of a miasm? This question was asked more than 150 years ago, but till 2003 was not answered nor even raised again. Grant Bentley asked this question again, then went further and developed Homeopathic Facial Analysis (extending upon observations mentioned by Allen and Roberts). He not only answered this question* but also offered new thought, research and application that makes a miasm an effective diagnostic clinic tool. The method developed (Homeopathic Facial Analysis) acknowledged Hahnemann and Boenninghausen, and demonstrates pure homeopathy in action.
There are basic concepts in homeopathy that are the foundations of the system. They are the fundamentals that support how we choose our remedies, but they are not the remedies themselves. This is a really important point because the study of remedies is not the study of homeopathy. The foundations of homeopathy are the basis and strength of homeopathy, while the remedies are the tools. These foundations improve and cure pathology, but they are not related directly to pathology. These foundations are
1. Law of similars
2. Potentised remedy
3. Remedies known through provings
4. Remedy selected by totality of symptoms
5. Totality remedy cross matched to miasm (The Chronic Diseases)
6. Stronger suppressing the weaker (facial structure and potency)
7. Single remedy
8. Repeated doses (Organon 6th ed)
These eight principles are vital to practising effective homeopathy, in relation to chronic illness. The highlighted words are important to be understood and utilised in every case of chronic illness. In the western world almost all illness is chronic, so these principles and their application are vital to being an effective practitioner.
Hahnemann gave us these eight principles, Boenninghausen taught us how to sort the symptoms using repertorisation, and Bentley to identify the miasm without pathology instead using facial structure. The case linked to this posting used facial analysis as part of the methodology, and the author even promotes her own clinic using a website called homeopathicfacialanalysis.com, but sadly doesn’t encourage practitioners to learn it themselves. The true origins of this method and the ability to learn it are found through the Victorian College of Classical Homeopathy website www.vcch.org The name ‘Homeopathic Facial Analysis’ was created in 2001 by Grant Bentley to describe this method which is known more commonly as HFA.
Why do we follow individual practitioners within homeopathy? Why do we need to? What does this mean for our profession?
The practice of homeopathy, and in particular the treatment of chronic illness, has been determined to be a difficult task, with only a few ‘special’ practitioners able to get results. Consequently there are practitioners who see an opportunity to self-promote, using a combination of old methods to create a “new” methodology, then entice patients or followers by publishing a few miracle cases to identify themselves and highlight their expertise. Most commonly special remedies are promoted, and yet homeopathy can be practiced effectively (using miasms) with less than 120 remedies – almost all the polychrests that Hahnemann introduced 200 years ago. Why do we need to source another practitioner, when we have been trained to practice ourselves? It is true that sometimes we struggle with a family member we feel we are too close with to treat effectively, but in theory we should be able to take the methodology we have been taught, and get the same consistent results ourselves.
So why do we follow gurus in homeopathy? It isn’t because of this practitioner that this case is great. It is because homeopathy is a wonderful system, and when applied properly with the findings of the three pioneers above, works consistently for many cases. Our profession should stop looking for leaders and learn how to all be excellent practitioners. Everyone can practice like this – we don’t have to be special to be a good practitioner – we just have to learn how to practice properly using the aspects of homeopathy that truly work. It is a testament to Grant Bentley that anyone who learns HFA can be a practitioner without a guru. The facial analysis method was called HFA (not the Bentley method or any other personal name) because it was designed for everyone and not for any single person to profit from, but to advance homeopathy to its rightful place in world health care.
The irony of writing this post, is that pointing to how to learn this last missing link to practising successful homeopathy is a form of promotion in itself. But if you have never heard about using facial analysis then this post is an opportunity to start looking at what it is and why it works. Instead of following other homeopaths do it for yourself, and spread homeopathy to more patients and more practitioners. The author of the case did the HFA online course and this education helped her with this result. See more cases at http://www.vcch.org/cases.html
*answer = a miasm is not directly related to pathology but is directly related to universal force or energy. Once identified through the examination of structure (our face) the miasm is used to find the matching totality remedy belonging to that same miasm which in turn treats the presenting pathology.
