Rice is the worst enemy of mankind

Very interesting.

If I may add some counterpoints based on experience here in the US, wheat too must be looked at with great caution.
I am guessing that it's more useful and less troublesome in a population which has been less overexposed to it than my own, but here in the US, wheat is among the most common and most troublesome allergens (along with corn, soy, and milk), causing a wide variety of symptoms in different people, but e.g. weight gain, glandular imbalance, digestive trouble, mental disruption, and others.

In our population rice is seldom found to be allergenic -- probably because most people here do not eat so much of it. But your observations about the relationship between rice and sugar is an important one -- and much of it also holds true for wheat. I have learned that some people do much better with little or no grains of any kind. (I have found it surprisingly easy to make that change, and the results have been *wonderful* for me!)
About your endorsement of GM foods, I beg you to read further research about the growing list of *terrible* effects of some GM foods, and the huge body of *suppressed* research regarding them.

Some GM foods may indeed be harmless and even useful. They need to be investigated each one individually, and investigated *honestly*, by researchers who have no financial interest in the outcome. Monsanto et al. must NOT be permitted to control the research, suppressing any which suggests harm -- *as they have been doing so far*.

We have animals *dying* because of certain GM crops. Some cases I have heard of involved cows which died after grazing on GM cotton after harvest -- as they had always previously grazed on the conventional cotton. Other experiments have shown the animals developing severe organ damage and/or reproductive damage, sometimes leading to death and in other cases leading to further weakening of each generation, until the 3d or 4th generation was sterile.

DO NOT TAKE GM PUBLICITY AT ITS FACE VALUE!

Results of *independent* research, and the experiences of various farmers, is extremely disturbing and give good reason why *each* new GM food must be initially viewed as an entirely new substance, needing full testing to see whether it is in fact harmless, and whether confidence is warranted. This has NOT been happening so far, so beware!

Finally, consider what the purposes so far have been of GM / genetic modifications: 90% have been for purpose either of
(a) making the plants tolerant of agricultural poisons, "weed-killers" -- which leads to increased use of these poisons, and their build-up in the soil, and also *in the plants themselves."

GMO foods are indeed found to contain higher levels of pesticide residue.

And the second, (b) to make the plant produce its *own* toxins internally, for purpose of killing off troublesome insects. In both of those those crops, then, we are *eating insecticide" in far greater quantities than has been the case with conventional (even non-organic) farming.

These two factors likely account for much of the trouble that is being observed with consumption of GM "foods".
They probably do not account for all of the reasons.

Thank you for this very thoughtful and thought-provoking analysis of the role of rice! There is much food for thought in it.
But I do very much hope that you will reconsider your enthusiasm for GM foods -- at least until the research situation has completely changed, such that we have honest and full information as to their safety or lack of safety, and until *each* new GM food is evaluated fully and honestly.

If you would like me to send links regarding any of this, let me know and I will search some up!

Best wishes,
Shannon
