Victory! Sen. Durbin’s Anti-Supplement Amendment DEFEATED (USA)

I received a take action email 30 minutes before a Senate vote yesterday at 2pm EST , I did use the ANHA website to send emails to my Senators, unfortunately the loudest most outspoken and influential one here in the USA, Chuck Schumer, a NY democrat, doesn't accept these emails and has a web based form to use which this group says is anti-democratic.
Seems in USA politics, many important issues are not given much public airing nor chance to hear other viewpoints and legislation can get passed before one knows what happened.

Do they pull these shenanigans in England, France, etc.?

YES the referendum is on the ballot Big Yea!!
However the battle line are heavily drawn. Monsanto, et al, including the American General Foods consortium
(all the big supermarkets) are pouring millions into defeating this referendum. Today ANH posted several articles
including another report of $4-5 million more poured into the media wars to defeat.
Stoneyfield dairy has been reluctant to join the frey. But I think they were embarrassed into it. Remember that
Stoneyfield, Whole Foods and ????? (brain glitch here) signed a memoradum of understanding in which these
so-called organic purveyers agreed to back of from supporting efforts for GMO labeling. With friends like these,
who needs enemies—right?
So everyone needs to get on the horn and get info out about the vote and education. Mercola.com just did a
video on GM. Jeffery Smith’s newest documentary Genetic Roulette was online free for about 2 weeks. Don’t
know if it can still be watched for free or it needs to be bought. FYI, I think I sent that free watch announcement
to minutus a couple of weeks ago when I got it.
Please, everyone do what you can to support this effort. Send money, send energy, contact everyone you know.
What happens in California will affect all of us directly, one side of the fight or the other. We cannot allow thes

BTW, Barry Commoner died yesterday. He was one of our first environmentalists after Rachel Carson. But he
was more progressive as he saw the political and economic relationship between environmental issues and the

yes it is, since i originally posted that i started our own PAC here in Florida, working with the originators of the one in California, to get a similar amendment on our ballot also. we had an article in our local newspaper Sunday and it was very one sided. it tried to paint the issue as a fight between the organic farmers vs. conventional farmers. AND... they stated there have been numerous studies showing GMO's are safe??? what??? i sure havent seen one. and there have been numerous showing how bad they are for you and the fact that these modifications allow excessive drenching with roundup of these crops making them even more toxic. very sad how big $$ owns the media. i will be writing a rebuttal to this article. doubt it will make the paper but at least i can try. i have been on a couple local radio shows so far but am trying to get on local tv news but their sponsors are big pharma and big agro so it will be a challenge.

you have my support vicki.
The Seralini, et al study is particularly devestating to the GM corporations because the group
doing the study is an independent group of highly credentialed professionals from a variety of
fields. They recently removed a woman on their Board due to conflict of interests—she worked
for the pharma? big food? industry. Then they passed a new regulation for themselves to
refuse participation of anyone with a conflict of interest in order to maintain their independence.
Next they struggled for a long time to get any information from Monsanto. I believe there is only
1 really bad study that Monsanto would release. Getting permission to use their product was also
an issue, if I am not mistaken. So given these 2 facts alone, the new study from Europe carries a
lot of weight. The timing for release of the results seems clearly well planned given the Calif.
referendum.
I believe that Russia just pulled GM crops (need more detailed info on this).
So when anyone talks about ‘safe’ studies, you have every right to laugh out loud and demand the
studies. I think you can fairly claim that Monsanto has refused to release its studies or data.
And you can cite people like Putsai who worked for the UK research on GM. He has come out
as a whistleblower who was pushed out of his office because he stated publicly that GMOs are
not safe. His interviews have been used in films like The World According to Monsanto and a
couple of others. If you have not seen any of these excellent documentaries, please avail yourself
of them and try to do public showings of the film. It is worth buying the DVD as that would support
the work of Jeffery Smiith and the Institute for Responsible Technology. There website is an
excellent source of downloadable information.

There as a documentary on public television some time ago..I do not remember what date except that it was before they got GMO alfalfa approved. It presented things like
* how animals offered a choice between GMO and natural refused to eat GMO, including squirrels and cows -
My comment: (so wild and domestic animals can tell the difference, before even eating it, but FDA can not? What does that say about FDA and Monsanto brains? Maybe we need a squirrel in charge of FDA? We' get safer health!)
* How we no longer get "hog casings" used in sausage making (pig intestines) as the pigs eat GMO corn and the intestines fall apart after that, and cannot be used.
My comment: What about OUR intestines? Anyone notice the rise in gluten intolerance and the new recognition of gluten intolerance NOT associated with inherited coeliac disease?
* How researchers showing GMO lack of safety had their lives threatened, and attempts were made to carry out the threats.
* how the ex-lawyer of Monsanto is the Food Czar at FDA.
My comment: Fox in charge of pigeon security?

It was a full episode, not just a short interview, and full of facts. I saw it either on KSPS Spokane or Idahoptv.
I just tried to find the documentary at their websites but could not in the short time I spent. I did find a few Jeffrey Smith short interview videos only:
http://video.ksps.org/searchForm/?q=GMO

Maybe someone else knows of the documentary - it would have some good facts to use.

It was only about 2 weeks ago that the link to J. Smith's new, full length
documentary was sent to
Minutus. Now I think you have to buy the film Genetic Roulette.

You can find The World According to Monsanto online free at this point. I
made a download copy of that one.
Try this free link:
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/the-worl ... -monsanto/

The Future of Food is another good documentary on Agribiz industry

Food Inc, is another good documentary.

I have not yet seen the video that Joseph Mercola has made recently. I
understand that he, and Mike Adams
of Natural News have both been good contributors to the California Label GMO
referendum.

There are a couple of other films that are also very good.

Just type in GMO documentaries online and many come up. Some may be short,
and there are some I haven't
seen.

The TV program that was aired in the NE was on PBS. I missed that program,
but may have seen it shown
privately without realizing it.

All your points are well documented in many of these videos.

Jeffery Smith also has a downloadable list of GMO foods to avoid and non-GMO
foods to eat. Copies can be
made for distribution. It is a good tool to hand out or to send to your
email list.

WE do have some excellent people doing the research and diligently trying to
get it disseminated. WE need to
help in that effort., Yes.
