The effects of some bacteria doing their job will affect some, of course, with the toxins they produce in the process of doing their job. And also if the persons immune system is very affected.

Huge numbers of bacteria do incredible things in our bodies - we have no idea the extent of that because so intent on destroying them and all in their wake. Vitamin B12 is produced by bacteria, for example - also Vitamin K and biotin and folic acid. It is an ecosystem which is destroyed when antibiotics are given (without regard)

Most of the bacteria blamed for illness exists in your nose/throat/body all the time...........they aren't the cause of illness.

Viruses have never been proven to cause anything, they are not alive, and probably are there doing a job, communicating between cells, but there is so much propaganda about them so virologists keep their jobs, their funding, and companies make lots of money from drugs and vaccines. It may be that foreign substances injected into us in vaccines that contain foreign viruses may cause a problem in another species such as us, but it is hard to say because the truth has been so obscured.

Primarily it is about the health of the host and I really don't worry about bacteria and so-called viruses.

They think they know so much but we are in infancy regarding our knowledge of the body and the world. We know next-to-nothing about the human immune system and even less about the infants immune system. Once you realize that we are very primitive in our knowledge and let go of the hubris of today.................things get a lot clearer.

What's your take on those instances where non-exposed populations have been decimated by exposure to microorganisms which are in fact harmless to acclimated populations?

Two examples would be:

- native "indian" tribes succumbing in droves to e.g. measles carried in by Columbus et al; and

- e.g. US tourists in Mexico, where partaking of the local water or produce can yield the colorfully named "Montezuma's revenge"?

Would you say that in those instances microorganisms were or were not disease agents?

So Sheri, you are saying that Yes, some microorganisms cause symptoms in some people, but it's not the microorganism's fault, it's just doing what it's supposed to...

Your glowing defense of the world of microorganisms is one that I am very familiar with, and I agree with; it would make for a tidier discussion if we take that as granted. Most are benign (we are in harmony with them); many are helpful, and some are essential, in any of so many ways.

But looking at other situations. So, microorganisms may produce symptoms due to the "toxins they produce" (in the process of "doing their job"...), and if person's immune system is affected -- or I would also add, if person's immune system is not up to the job, perhaps for reason of lack of exposure, that it has not *learned* to cope with that microorganism, tho with appropriate minor exposure first, would handle it just fine.
