Baby making herself retch.

Why would a baby of 11 months old like putting her fingers down her throat to make herself retch? It seems strange behaviour for a child who eats well, is walking, got 9 teeth, very independant and active, no fears, sleeps well, eats everything except avocado, loves fish, and dried sea weed, seems to like sour as well. Don't think she has been given much sweet stuff . No pacifier but sucks her thumb when tired. Was breast fed until a couple of weeks ago. Mum has stopped as she is trying to conceive again. This behaviour is being ignored and distraction techniques used. Any ideas for a rubric for this?

Thanks

Rochelle - First of all, I would have her mouth/throat examined to make sure there isn't a physical reason for her behavior... Perhaps something is lodged in her mouth or throat (you said she likes fish - a fish bone??? When I was about 2yo, I got a small chicken bone stuck in my throat and it was monumental(I'm 70yo now, but I remember it like it was yesterday)! Also, is a tooth in the process of erupting perchance. That makes for some unusual *pawing at the mouth* behavior in a pre-verbal child... Just some thoughts, Judith Mateo

I'll get that sorted. I suppose it is a possibility.

Thanks for the suggestion.
