I have split this aphorism so that it becomes easier to read and understand.
Simply put, we need to recognise Symptoms, carry out Provings, use Symptom Similarity, know how much
to give dosage, when to repeat, and recognise what may stop us achieving cure.
§ 3
If the physician clearly perceives what is to be cured in diseases, that is to say, in every
individual case of disease (knowledge of disease, indication),

if he clearly perceives what is curative in medicines, that is to say, in each individual medicine
(knowledge of medical powers), and

if he knows how to adapt, according to clearly defined principles, what is curative in medicines to
what he has discovered to be undoubtedly morbid in the patient, so that the recovery must ensue - to
adapt it, as well in respect to the suitability of the medicine most appropriate according to its
mode of action to the case before him (choice of the remedy, the medicine indicated),

as also in respect to the exact mode of preparation and quantity of it required (proper dose), and

the proper period for repeating the dose; -

if, finally, he knows the obstacles to recovery in each case and is aware how to remove them, so
that the restoration may be permanent,

then he understands how to treat judiciously and rationally, and he is a true practitioner of the
healing art .

I think it will be slightly different angle in different cases.
Obviously, pain and urgency dictate their own terms.

An event that has set the train off its rails is significant and until addressed you have no chance of cure.
For sure when we have symptoms, they are like chain! They tie us down and limit our activity to a degree on all spheres of life, mentally, emotionally and physically. The word disease is interesting in itself - it can be split into Dis = Bad / Not and Ease. So when we have a disease we are not at ease with ourselves. Interestingly the Farsi (Persian) word for disease is made up of exactly the same two words.
And when one part is not at ease, the other parts are affected and can becoming limiting. Try tying shoe laces with a cut little finger. And that is why when the treatment is going well the patient report that they feel better in themselves.
So we should always ask ourselves WHAT NEEDS TO BE CURED? The presenting symptom, or the symptom that brought the patient to see the homeopath may be just the tip of the ice berg! What we need to look at is the 'relevant' totality of the symptoms.
We will get to this later on.
My colleague Dr Shad-del produced a ranking system for analysing each symptom so that we can rank them according to their category of 'Present', 'old and continuing' and 'old and stopped' etc.

Thanks for starting this Soroush.

What do you think he meant by what is to be cured? The center of the case? The top priority for the patient's health?, or the patient's sense of freedom (Vithoulkas). Are we free to openly interpret this?

That ranking system is interesting. I have never heard of it. Is it too complex to reproduce here? Iran seems to be the home of many very creative thinkers.
