Stammering is more mental than physical. Relax him first. Give him confidence.

If there is any particular challenge of late with which he is not able to cope, attend to it and counsel him. If you are not able to understand it, take the help of a psychiatrist to find the cause (no drugs beware). Even his school teacher or friends will be able to tell when he loses confidence or is stressed.

Sit with him to help a stretched out reading. A sentence like " moon is shining " should be pronounced as " mmmmmmmmmooooooooooonnnnniiiiiiiissssssssssshshshshiiiiiinnnnniiiiinnnnnggggg". The stretch should be as long as possible. Do it for fifteen minutes a day.

Tap on the table for each word he speaks. This is training for a rhythm. No one stammers while singing. So taking a cue from this. Give him a sentence and ask him to speak one word for each tap while you systematically ans rhythmically do it.

If you need a short cut that works immediately try this: Ask him to exhale through the mouth before uttering every word or at least when the feared consonant or vowel is anticipated. Some one stammer at the sound 'a' some at 'k' and so on.

Homeopathically

1. 1 st syllable of a word stammer- stram
2. Lach, Merc, Ign, Staph are good remedies.
