Minutus

80-ish man, rather fragile, this happened a few days ago for the first
time. Anyone have thoughts about what the cause or meaning of it
might be? (I have no case, am not looking to rep yet.)

"we had had lunch at [someplace familiar, and I guess while in the
restaurant, or after?]; he said everything was in a very bright white
light. That lasted a while on the road. Then when we stopped, he was
dizzy when he got out of the car. That happened a few times, but
would go away. I got him some apple juice thinking it might be a
little low blood sugar and it seemed to help."

This could be a wee bit of almost anything – or a precursor to something big. To be responsible, even before you get the case, it is appropriate to have him checked for stroke, clot, blood pressure, etc. as well as neurologic issues, medication issues, and thyroid, liver, and pancreas issues. I have witnessed some very odd occurrences in the elderly that seemed to mean nothing – just an odd little transient something that happened and was gone. However it would be wise to have him 'checked over' without prejudice (tell the family to take him in but not ask the Dr 'is it this' or 'is it that' since it will sometimes make them fail to ask the right questions) – and then weigh the results to see if you agree or not.
