The Four Remedy Reactions, Part 2, Dissimiar Aggravations.

Dissimilar Aggravations
A dissimilar aggravation is one in which the patient experiences new
and troublesome symptoms not appertaining to the state beginning treated
after taking the remedy. For example, a person with the headaches takes the
remedy and gets a backache they never had before. This symptom is caused by
the primary action of the remedy and is not homoeopaths, i.e. similar to
the patients condition. Unfortunately, those who think all reactions are
good reactions make no attempt to regularize the vital force. If they
continue to use such a remedy it may graft a medicinal disease on the vital
force that will not self correct. I have had to treat several such cases
that were caused by a random number of dry pills of high potency Cs like
the 200c, 1M, etc., and some cause by the daily dose of the LMs over long
periods of time. They were ill for months to years because the homoeopath
thought they were witnessing a cleans crisis.
This is one of the danger in using large doses and high potencies. I
did that for many years and everything was very dramatic. The cures were
dramatic, the aggravations were dramatic, and the antagonistic counter
actions of the vital force were dramatic. The way I was practicing was TOO
DRAMATIC and was not in harmony with aphorism 1 of the Organon, which
speaks of a gentle, rapid and permanent cure. If one uses the smallest
possible dose and is prudent with potency there is little danger when one
gives the wrong dose. The vital force will tend to self correct and it is
easy to give a better remedy.
When the wrong remedy is giving in a very large dose, or repeat
mechanically homoeopathy is no longer safe or effective. We are all going
to give the wrong remedy at times and there are going to be those who react
poorly to our selection. Those who give the C and LM potency daily or at
other rapid intervals in solution without reading the most important words
in aphorism 246 (IF NECESSARY) can cause great havoc with the wrong remedy.
Giving the wrong remedy can be like a strong wind pushing a boat off
course. When one gives the wrong remedy one must regularize the vital force
so that it is not going in the wrong direction. The case management
procedure for such a situation includes the following.
1. If the new symptoms are mild the homoeopath may wait a few days for the
negative effect to wear off and the vital force to self correct. In this
case the patient will return to the stasis quo and a new, better remedy given.
2. If the new symptoms are moderate and more prolong the homeopath must
retake the case INCLUDING the natural symptoms and the new medicinal
symptoms in one grand totality. This new simillimum will regularize the
vital force and move the case forward at the same time. It is important
that this next remedy is carefully chosen and tested for its similitude
because the case can become very muddle if the natural symptom pattern is
disrupted too many times.
3. When the new symptoms are strong they should be antidoted as fast as
possible. Here there is no time to wait and watch. If the case has organic
pathology there can be damage to tissues, organs and systems. The antidotes
of the negative remedy are studied in the materia medica, lists of
antidotes, and Boenninghausen's concordance, and the closest remedy is
chosen. If no antidote is known one may try physical antidotes such as
coffee and camphor. Sometimes, especially when the dose is large and the
potency is high, such physical antidotes will not work. In this desperate
situation one must try to use method two. The signs and symptoms will lead
to the antidotal remedies and the case can be reconstructed over time.
If one uses the medicinal solution, small doses, prudent potencies, and
does not repeat the remedy when it is NOT needed, antidotes will not be
necessary. There may be, however, an idiosyncratic patient who has an
allergenic-like reaction to a homoeopathic remedy. This is when a well made
dose of the wrong remedy causes an antagonistic counter action of the vital
force. This is the worse case scenario. Such are reaction is rare (when
using proper posology) but it has happen.
Hahnemann said that those who use the proper small dose and lowest
degrees of potency will not need to use an antidote. Most of the time, the
negative reaction is very short lived (1) or is easy removed by given the
corrective remedy (2). Here the remedy antidotes and positively complements
the incorrect remedy. Since using the medicinal solution I have not had to
use an antidote. Most of the experience I have gain with antidoting strong
negative reactions have come from making remedies and potencies. Here I
have seen several dramatic negative reactions through contact and olfaction
of various potencies while dropping doses on sugar,etc.. What is
interesting is that the smallest dose will easy correct even the largest
exposure.
PS, I think the words IF NECESSARY may be the most important in homoeopathy.
Accessory symptoms next.
