Hi group,

wondered if anyone has experience in Lyme disease with a dog, not so
much remedies but symptoms my 8 year old German Sheperd a few weeks
ago had lameness/pain in her rear right leg a few weeks ago..I thought
it was probably a sprain and had a acupuncturist work on her with good
results along with bellis and arnica tonight when I got home she is
not putting any weight at all on it, I put some topical gel on to help
with pain but started to wonder if lyme would present like this I
have found numerous ticks on her this spring which is unusual for her.

appreciate any advice, I am currently dealing with my son today who
fractured his ulna and radius bones and we have to go in for surgery
tomorrow so I am overwhelmed presently with injuries

with sympathies to you. i don't want to add to your overwhelmedness, but
you may have to do a little investigation for your dog if you suspect lyme.
but if you suspect lyme, then have a titer done so you will know.
otherwise, take the case as usual and treat
did you save any of the ticks for identification? if in the US every county
has a co-op extension agent that can help you do an Id on the tick. also,
you can use the DEC which has different divisions.
with animals it is difficult unless you do a communication with them to get
the subjective sensations and feelings.
all that being said, ledum is one rx that is used acutely and seems to work
with dogs--if the symptoms fit.

Lora, So sorry about your son's injuries. Fortunately, he has you near to help with the process. Best wishes for his speedy and comfortable recovery.

My daughter's dog has recently been diagnosed with Lyme's. The lameness that suddenly reappears and even moves from joint to joint is certainly a common description within Lyme symptoms. Left untreated, the disease progresses to organ failure. The modern awareness and testing allows far quicker diagnosis and therefore appropriate treatment, so most dogs recover very well. Not so many years ago, they were misdiagnoses as having arthritis, and the drugs not only did no good for the Lyme's but speeded the deterioration of the organs. For my daughter's dog, knowing that Lyme was very prevalent in her area, she started Ledum at the very first sign, and he was tested quickly. Their vet (knowing this individual, this breed, and their area very well) encouraged a single course of antibiotics specifically chosen from the history of dogs in their region, lower activity level for 2 weeks, and follow up blood test. Although this vet is not a homeopath – his wife is – so he is comfortable with using complementary approaches. After 2 doses of Ledum the dog is symptom free, back to his old boundless energy, and it is hard to keep him 'relatively quite for two weeks'.

In any case, I'm sure you already have him on a good diet (preferably raw), supplements as necessary for his individual needs, etc.

Take a deep breath, consider something like Bach Rescue Remedy for yourself through this time, and take care of yourself.

I had one experience with a Golden Retriever having Lyme. Symptoms developed rather quickly - lameness, didn't want to move, wanted to be left alone and actually would snap if one tried to go near him (usually a very friendly dog). Ledum 200C in a split dose totally took care of all the symptoms.

I was pleasantly surprised that she was on her feet and wanted to go outside this morning, putting weight on it but noticing that she will rearrange her posture so that she puts no weight on it when she is resting
This would appear to me that it may be more of a trauma if she is being careful with it right? I haven't had a lot of experience with lyme's but would think that it would be more numb and paralytic like so the fact that is in only in the rear right make me think that it may be a ligament issue like Kristy mentioned

I am just so happy that is is able to move around today with all I have going on right now. I think I may try some Ruta and when time permits follow up with some lab work. She has done some cold light therapy with success so I may try that as well.

my son on the other hand fractured his ulna and radius at school, we have a high high deductible and he is going in today for surgery so I have dollar signs running thru my head--
repeated arnica has helped immensely for the pain, he is being a tough guy but his face shows lots of discomfort it happened at school, they did sports indoors and got hurt on thew

Donna gave you some good advice.
From my experience, Lyme shows up as an acute lameness but left untreated becomes a chronic, painful, overall “I hurt” without enough specifics. Lyme, left untreated, hides out in the tissues of the body (eventually the major organs) and mimics thousands of other diseases/complaints – all the way from skin issues to arthritis – sometimes painful today and not so painful the next day. Our dogs are so good at masking any pain they feel and just keep on keeping on for our sake.
I have Lyme dogs; they were treated allopathically (didn’t know about homeopathy back at that time) and I am still fighting the aftereffects. So treat now and treat aggressively. Ruta has not been a Rx that has addressed Lyme for me. I have used Ledum for acutes with good success.
Titers really do not give you enough information; blood work can show nothing abnormal; the test of choice is the Western Blot.
From my understanding, Lyme is treatable when caught in its acute stage. Waiting and treating later is really not a good idea.

Lyme can be treated with homeopathy even in late stages, it is just harder.
But it works on such a deep cellular level to clear everything out, unlike allopathic drugs.
I also used astragalus to help clean out the dead stuff. Don't know if that is safe for dogs.

Tanya, it may be treated in late stages in humans because you can get some good feedback from human patients which gives you clues as to the effectiveness of the Rx prescriptions. Animals are unable to give sufficient feedback to really work a hard case like late stage Lyme that has had antibiotics.
With my dogs in late stage Lyme after receiving tons of antibiotics as well as other treatments, homeopathy has not been sufficiently curative. That’s the problem with waiting to treat Lyme in dogs – antibiotics really disguise the symptoms, cover it up, and run the disease deeper to the point the case is really incurable.
The main point I was trying to relay – don’t wait! Treating acute Lyme disease is the only way to go.
