They stopped burning of 'witches' when they realized that white, european women were in very
short supply. That is when laws began to be passed with penalties for making false accusations.
Interesting how witchcraft was always a political/economic issue --despite all the emotional fear
mongering and use of the church/religion to rile the masses.
You are right, that little has changed.
A short video on the Boston Tea Party was interesting this week. A book written by a young man of
17 who participated in that 'rebellion' was discovered in a book store. This person's first hand
account, probably the only one, talks about the real issues. It was about this large tea company
(today's corporation) getting tax favors from the King of England and trying to force high prices on
the colony local merchants. A boycott was organized and the tea co went to the King of England
to complain about lost profits. The company wanted the people to be forced to pay more for the
tea to make up the losses. The King was to give the $ to the tea co and increase taxes on the people.
It was that revolt against this attempted enforcement to compensate the tea co that lead to the
revolution, the shot that was heard round the world.
And what has changed since then? Not much
