The remedy is mostly indicated in severe facial
neuralgia and malignant affections of tongue.

Neuralgia is agonising in nature and esp affects
temporal, orbital and supra-maxillary regions (< cold
and touch). Unconsciousness and screaming my accompany
the neuralgic pains.

It is an important remedy indicated in malignant
ulcers of tongue with induration of edge of tongue.

Becoming angry at the persons not present is an
important mental feature of this remedy.

* Has produced symptoms of apoplexy, asthma, cancer especially of the
tongue, Cheyne-stokes breathing. Ciliary neuralgia, epilepsy, headache,
rheumatism, speech lost. Much of our knowledge of this remedy comes from
cases of poisoning. The irritability and weakness of __xxx__ present
combined with the profound and rapid action of the __xxxx_ element. Loss of
consciousness and obscuration of vision with marked convulsive symptoms;
later staggering, uncertain gait and agonizing attacks of ciliary and
maxillary neuralgia.
Face pale or of livid and bloated, marked cyanosis.
Copious vomiting followed by a return of consciousness.
Voice hoarse after attack. Loud mucus rattling. Slow and difficult
respiration. Anxious feeling in chest stitches in heart and lungs;
palpitation. Limbs rigid and convulsed, fingers stretched out and
spasmodically contracted, marked weakness of lumbar region. Surface of body
moist and cold. *
Much of our knowledge of this drug comes from its poisonous effects
observed on those subjected to its influence either accidently or
intentionally. There has been a fragmentary proving made by Lembke and
others.
Suddenness, violence, and intensity of action constitute its pace. It
smites with all the suddenness and certainty of the deadliest venom of the
serpent; in fact so sudden at times as to preclude the possibility of pain
paralyzing the cardiac and respiratory centers and bringing instant death.
In this respect it is more like an electric bolt.
It produces apoplectic and epileptic states, much like those of
hydrocyanic acid. Loss of consciousness and vision occur and as vision
returns with consciousness it is double. Strong tetanic convulsions fingers
stretched out and spasmodically contracted. Sec. has stretching out of
fingers with convulsions and might need to be compared.
Cyanosis is a pronounced feature. Such symptoms are among the more violent
of the acute states observed. It has a chronic side very useful and
instructive to the homeopath. There are severe pains in the head and gastric
regions with great muscular weakness, in some cases going on to complete
paralysis. Impairment of speech which is long lasting is a marked condition
often found. Agonizing attacks of neuralgic pains in head and face with
screaming and loss of sensibility.
Clinically it has proven curative in epithelioma of the tongue, apoplexy
epileptic conditions, respiratory disorders, rheumatism of the joints and
violent neuralgia. Daily attacks of neuralgia beginning at 4 a.m. (many of
this family have this time aggravation) gradual rise and decline of pain as
in Stann. and Plat. Cedr. and Chinin-s. have a daily periodic pain beginning
at the same hour, generally 9 to 10 a.m. It is related to and should be
compared with Hydr-ac., Amyg., Camph. and Laur.
