Deworming puppies

I called Health food Stores and discovered one who sells R56 by Dr.Reckeweg for deworming.Has anyone else heard of this ?Is it better then DE?

Yes the Dr Reckeweg group of Rx are complexes with many different remedies in each. They were first brought out for practitioners (not homeopaths!!!) who wanted a homeopathic remedy that they could prescribe for a disease. The R56 contains Artemisia vulg. D1, Cina D4, Filix D3, Graphites D30, Mercur.subl.corr.D6, Tanacetum vulg.D1.

No, I don't think so. DE is positive in its action, a physical agent, not an energetic one. It is harmless to the dog. The weak homeopathic combinations in this patent medicine may or may not work, as they are prescribed globally on the basis of symptoms, and don't take into account the individual predilections of the subject.

I 've used DE for worms, and I use homeopathy, properly prescribed, for everything else:)

Ginny, would you mind giving specific suggestion, e.g. for a cat who is vomiting worms, how much would you give, and how often and how long? I'm intrigued that you've found it effective this way, as what I'd read is that it's only effective (against fleas, at least) when it is dry. But if you have seen it to be effective for worming, I am not inclined to argue with success!

I gather that in any case there is no concern about overdosing, or continuing too long, as from what I read it is also used in livestock feed as a "mineral supplement"--does that match your understanding?

For a cat I would use about 1/2 teaspoonful a day, for several weeks. The main mass of worms should exit fairly soon, but there will be eggs that hatch for up to a month. A healthy animal, of course - by which one would mean a raw fed one, with no other major issues - can tolerate a small population of parasites, which the system will hold in balance. So the idea is not necessarily to kill off the entire population, anyway.

I do not use it routinely or prophylactically, but many do. You may find out a lot more at the site These guys seem to be the recognized experts, and also sell DE at very reasonable prices. You know, of course, that you must use ONLY pharmaceutical grade, and not garden or pool grade DE.

I would definitely look at the chronic picture which is allowing such an infestation, but given this level, I believe this "mechanical" aid is warranted as well.
