Better known as an essential oil and herbal remedy than as a homeopathic
remedy.

Probably the first plant used in distillation - credited to Ibn Sina
("Avicenna") in the 10th century. Symbol of love and purity. Aid to
meditation and prayer. Used in healing balms for lung diseases and asthma in
Middle Ages. Fruit provides excellent source of Vitamin C.

Properties: Antidepressant, antiphlogistic, antiseptic, antispasmodic,
aphrodisiac, bacteriacide, cholagogue, depurative, diuretic, emmenagogue,
haemostatic, hepatic, laxative, sedative, splenetic, stomachic, tonic.

Affinity with female reproductive system. Soothing effect on emotions,
particularly grief, depression, jealousy and resentment. Lifts heart and
eases nervous tension and stress. Regulates appetite, prevents and relieves
digestive spasms, constipation and nausea. Soothes chapped, cracked, dry,
sensitive, inflamed or allergy-prone skin; stops bleeding and encourages
wound-healing. Also useful for treating headaches, earache, conjunctivitis,
coughs and hayfever.

The Romans valued it for hangovers.

The flower remedy of another member of same species is recommended for
overly fatalistic and apathetic attitudes.

FOLKLORE And [remedy]
Since ancient times, [remedy] oil has been consistently classified as an
oil of emotional feeling, love, femininity and transformation. The
Romans scattered [remedy] petals on the marriage bed and Roman brides
and bridegrooms were crowned with [remedy] as were the images of Venus
and Cupid. When Cleopatra invited Mark Antony to her palace, she had the
meeting room floor covered knee-deep with [remedy] because of her
fervent belief in the romantic power of the [remedy] scent. Among some
American Indian tribes, braves gathered wild [remedy] for the hair of
their brides. Also, the [remedy] was supposedly sacred to Aphrodite, the
Greek goddess of love, beauty and fertility. Legend has it that St.
Dominic, in the course of a mystical vision, received the first rosary
from the Virgin Mary and each bead was [remedy]-scented.
