What to look for to confirm that a remedy is positive

Hi,
I am a mom to a teenager with aspergers (and sensory processing disorder, ocd) as well as a homeopathy student. My daughter is rather tough to work with. She has many symptoms and apparently it is hard to tease out what is the essence of her case.
We have been working with a classical homeopath (3rd one, actually) - mostly with water dosing for about 1-1/2 years. I am still confused about evaluating her response to remedies. We have not ever had a very clear amelioration although looking back over this time, I would say she is definitely improved overall. She is very sensitive to remedies so we generally give 1/4-1/2 tsp. from a 2nd cup of water.
Right now, she is on Silica 30C in water. I can't really see a clear improvement and her OCD and sensory stuff is more intense. She has gotten some diarrhea after a dose or starts chewing on her fingers or looks pale and ill - these I would call "detox" symptoms (she used to appear this way when taking supplements in bio-med). Hard to know when to repeat as there is no clear improvement so hard to spot a downturn. Do you see with autistic children, that the remedy can cause a detox type of reaction that looks negative but is actually good?
With her brother, who is on Nat. Mur., I see very clear improvement of his skin and mood as soon as he takes his remedy. Why so murky with her? I know improvement is happening but so unclear...
Just wondering what others have experienced in working with children on the autistic spectrum. When you read paper cases, it is presented so clearly. They took the remedy - then this, that and the other improved. Took the remedy again when they had a relapse of symptoms - sounds so simple(:
