Changing people's minds

I was walking with a friend of my mothers when i was in my twenties. He was a
math teacher at an Eastern University. I asked him if he had a pen and he
said no, he didn't. At that very moment, a pen fell out of some papers, etc,
that he was holding. He was beside himself. Things like that don't happen. He
was in a state of surprise. You can talk all you want but in the end a person
needs to be surprised. Probably more than once.
