What rubrics (or remedies) might apply to this?
He has dreams with a repeating theme, that he is alone, "seems like
it's always twilight", and seems like maybe depression-era feel (he is
80-ish and remembers those days well). He is "maybe something like
moving stacks of papers", from place to place. Feeling? Nothing in
particular, just slogging through it. Sometimes there seem to be
other people, but always way off in the distance, doesn't know who
they'd be.

I looked for rubrics re dreams re boredom; tedium; repetitive
tasks... What else? I found "Dreams, alone, he is", am considering
that, but it does seem the main point of the dreams..

And these, but again they don't seem quite to-the-point. (The
*point*, as I get it, seems to be tedium, endless and meaningless
tasks, something about separation or ?? I had to laugh when he
described them but now I can't figure out how to use them!!

Dreams of the past; repeating dreams from the past; of being lost in the past; about past life.

Reads like there was something not finished or accomplished at the point in time in which is he stuck. You need to explore more.

The dream sounds consistently, pointedly (and both visually and emotionally) dull.

I think it is representative of his mental state, not a memory or anything.
I found this--Dreams of organizing! Or Dreams of business? Yuk, those might do it. (And they do include a couple of remedies that could be plausible in light of the rest of the case.)

But yes, I agree it needs context.
Situation involves a disabled wife, which has drastically changed his life--can no longer travel, much less social engagement, changed relationship--life is very changed, and much more circumscribed than previously. Cares, worries, not knowing how to do (and identify) all that needs to be done.... I'm well supplied with "context", but less well supplied with emotional info and so thought these dreams could be useful!

And how sad to have one's *dreams* do that!!!
I do think that is perhaps the main point of the dream, that he is stuck in drudgery, life off at a distance, too caught up in the drudgery even to object to it (much). But I'm not sure; that's just my take on it at the moment.

Unfortunately so far, my explorations are just bringing me back to remedies that I've already tried with him in the past--but I think I'll just start trying them again, unless some further inspiration strikes me.

Repetition of an act can often mean trying to sort out chaos by attempting order or perhaps in this case trying to achieve something but unsuccessful - have you asked about that, lack of ambition, thwarted, unsuccessful - there is 'dreams, unsuccessful efforts' - was thinking about Emerald.

I would look at the 'twilight' delusions as well as he is in his twilight years and his dreams reflect a repeating theme of twilight and maybe concerned about this.

If the symptoms are pointing to a remedy you've tried, then why not? It may be good reason to reconsider potency and the thousand and one potential obstacles.

If you do not look into the theme of the dream but consider just the fact that a dream is repeating - it could be Arnica- see if he has had any micro thrombotic episodes when this started -

But if you want more meaning to the dream itself then you could expand it to incorporate not just dreams but also delusions rubric -
esp. given the fixed repetitive nature of the dream-

Delusions, alone; delusions, work; Thoughts repetitive etc. could be considered. The underlying meaning of hopelessness, dreariness, ennui etc. can be looked into...

If you are interested in these we can look deeply into it - some Aur salts, Arg.nit etc I even ran across Cyclamen, Mancinella etc. I can look deeper if you can give a few more non dream symptoms or what the presenting complaint is...

Generally when does this dream occur? Early sleep, late sleep? Wakes him after that? How frequent? How does the patient react to the dream?
What is his explanation for the dream?

there was anything in that time that gave him something positive - eg
family connections and pulling together sometimes happens in adverse
situations - if that wasn't there, then what was 'it' that has kept him
going and has he still got 'it'.
