Here is a link to an apparently reliable radiation-free alternative to
mammogram.
The credentials of the guy who developed it are impeccable.
Also recommended for prostate scan, it's called color doppler sonography,
and is in use in other areas of medicine as well.
Ultrasound is similar to sonar in that high-frequency sound waves are sent
into the body and bounce back from soft tissues as echoes. The soft tissue
images are obtained without the need for contrast agents, and ultrasound
does not cause any known damage to tissues. It is mainly used for
tomographic images but can be used to quantitate the movement of cardiac
valves and patterns of blood flow.
