Up to the first quarter of the last century what you say was correct but that hasn't been the case for over 80 years now. The U.S. Senate published Document #264 in 1936 that clearly stated in a few simple paragraphs that the foods grown in this country no longer provided adequate nutrition. Modernized farming techniques had depleted the soil and only NPK (Nitrogen Potassium & Phosphorus) is added back into the soil to grow foods. Hence the craze for organically grown produce that hopefully is grown the old fashioned way in animal manure.

The human frame requires a minimum of 2 grams of vitamin C daily and much more is desirable. Dr. Pauling founded the concept of orthomolecular medicine based upon supplementation which we all require. Food simply doesn't cut it in the Millennium. Carmi Hazen

a) I wouldn't believe anything said by any government - what was behind that story?
b) Modern framing only really took off in the 50s after the war
c) Linus Pauling - bless him - did not have the whole story - and died of cancer himself anyway.
So where does that leave supplementation by Vit C? Only necessary if there is an acute situation to remedy - definitely a bad thing if abused of on a daily basis - in my opinion.

Actually even in the late 1800's there were farmers campaigning against
the use of artificial fertilizers on the land and of practices that were
destroying the soil (read authors such as Robert H Elliot). It is
certainly not just something that has taken off since the 50's. Sadly
humanity is very slow to catch on.

You will be hard pressed to find
soil across the UK that is well balanced from a mineral perspective, and
though that can be blamed a lot on farming practices, it is also due to
soil differences in different localities. Excesses of one mineral can
cause deficiencies of another, such as high molybdenum linked to copper
deficiency. As with all subjects it is not clearly black and white.

Vitamin C is totally harmless at any concentration. Being water soluble most of it remains in the gut and is excreted. IV Vitamin C is being successfully used against cancer and most other diseases as it is required by granulocytes to do their job. It dioes not cause stones. Upwards of 200 grams have been administered daily with no problems. Archie Kalokerinos used it to prevent SIDS in Aboriginal natives contaminated by vaccines which are the cause of the condition as well as Shaken baby Syndrome.
Pauling was way ahead of his time and current research has reviled that he was correct in his observations. Carmi Hazen

We need Vit C/
It is a 'stress' vitamin meaning it gets used up faster when under stress; ie, cold-cancer; disappointment, grief, etc.
We do not make it in our bodies
We do not get enough in our foods.
Our lives, particularly in the West, are very stressful
Take your vitamin C cupplement freely

Vitamin C is NOT harmless at any concentration. If you take Vit C when it is not indicated, you can acidify your body (it is, after all, an acid) and cause gout, kidney stones or similar diseases of excess acidity in susceptible people. However, unless you know this, you would not make the connection.
Supplementation is not natural - to supplement without a medical condition requiring it is both unnecessary and foolhardy.

eating acid foods does not mean they react to acidify the body. i would worry more about meat, grains, particularly
processed grains and sugars that acidify the body. these are not acids in themselves.
and when the body needs it, doses at high as 200 grams is a healthy choice as with cancer.

good question. i have never seen any information that specifies a difference.
perhaps some online research will inform us. can't do it now though--running

One cannot over-do Vitamin C by ingestion. It is water soluble and remains in the gut. Excess amounts produce diarrhea and the excess is expelled. Vitamin V is indicated in any infection and large amounts of it are required. The White cells (primarily granulocytes) require it (along with sodium chloride; yes, salt) to make hydrogen peroxide which in turn is used to destroy pathogens.
Medically it is used in high concentrations only by IV for the above mentioned reasons. Dr. Klenner et al., became famous for his aggressive use of the substance in treating virtually all diseases. Lately it is being reported to be very effective in cancer treatment by high volumes applied via IV.
Vitamin C does not cause stones as was once believed. Scientific studies have debunked this myth. Gout is hyperuricemia caused by impaired nitrogen metabolism due to deranged animal protein syntheses. Uric acid solidifies in the extremities (mainly the feet and especially the toe) by forming sharp crystals that tend to stab the tissue in which it is embedded.
Humans were engineered to be vegetarian, not carnivores. It is our overindulgence in animal protein that is responsible for most disease, especially cancer.
True supplementation is not natural but neither is our food supply.
Dr. Pauling was correct and an entire course of study was founded by him known as orthomolecular medicine. Allopathy has been brainwashed by Big Pharma who incorrectly taught them that vitamins were first thought to be 'Expensive Urine'; Well now, compared to drugs which are now causing fish to become asexual and developing new strange appendages should't that be more of a cause for alarm? It ain't the vitamins causing our water supply to evolve into a septic apothecary...
I see modern medicine as a cruel fiendish evil joke. Doctors pontificate yet they cure nothing; vis-a-vis, they know nothing. They don't know what causes cancer but claim they can treat it. Look at the outcomes from their treatments. Death 98% of the time! 1/3 of the patients diagnosed with cancer don't have it and they become the success stories...
Next time you see your doctor ask this question: "If I take this medicine when I am ill, it is supposed to make me well. How come if I take it while I am well, it will make me sick?"
Acidic bodies is not due to excess acid ingestion, its due to hypoalkalosis. Poor diet being the main culprit. There are many forms of acid and alkalinity in the body and they all have specific functions and thus the generalization of 'an acidic body' is a false assumption that pH governs homeostasis, it doesn't. Some believe that disease thrives in an acid environment, that is also incorrect. Disease lies in hyeralkalinity not acidity. True acids are detected in the body humors and reducing them is a good thing to do but the mechanism of disease lies on the alkaline side of the equation.
