Sounds like it was more than *just* a sprain.
Priscilla, I think you would get a lot from getting a good acute care book or two.
I'll mention the two that I got started with, and perhaps others have other recommendations?

Both of these include good background information sections, about the history and "philosophy" and mechanics of homeopathy; also small materia medica and repertory sections, and also explanations of why acute care is different from care of chronic issues. The bulk of each book is made up of "therapeutics" sections relating to specific conditions, e.g. colds etc.; teething; fevers; traumas--etc.

Homeopathic Medicine At Home, by Panos--includes good discussions of each topic, and also charts that I found useful.

Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines, by Cummings and Ullman.
I found this to nicely complement the other, and I like its special feature, that for each complaint section it includes sub-section called "Beyond Home Care: Get Medical Care Immediately [if any of the following]; Get Medical Care Today [if...]; etc. Alerting the reader to danger signals that say you need to call in back-up, and in some cases might be advised to e.g. "Call 911, and while waiting for the ambulance to arrive, give..." -- for those situations where a given remedy *might* be what's needed--but if you're wrong, you don't have time to wait and see.

Books such as this can be a quick, easy and enjoyable way to get some basic information, and can provide a really useful help for situations that arise!
