Stroke- rubric? - Update

Update to this patient who came with PC of hot flushes and night sweats since she had to come off the HRT because of the stroke is that a couple of doses of Glon 30 as a WP did the trick!! Have told her not to take any more unless they come back but I am now wondering if I should have said this because she has got so much else wrong with her for which she takes 8 lots of medication for diabetes, angina and the stroke- all of which are covered by the Glon. She said this morning that her only problem is the dry mouth which I immediately recognised as a diabetic symptom. She is monitoring her blood sugar for the practice nurse for a few days and her fasting this morning was 10. something, far too high. She doesn't want to go on insulin so I have told her to cut bread, potatoes, rice and pasta for the next few monitoring days and drink loads of green tea. I was surprised when she didn't appear to know that having a meal of baked potato and baked beans, mash, rice and white bread toast with her meals would contribute to the high levels even with the medication she takes!!! AAAAAAh!!!! I also gave her the tip that she should eat fruit with her meal not as a snack between meals. She is now going shopping for oat cakes, peanut butter (without sugar!!) ryvita.
