This mega-email does not belong on Minutus, IMO. I have received it several times from friends, no complaint there, but some folks can’t easily download this amount of info so it shouldn’t come to ALL; moreover it is way off-topic, surely. Teresa (Northern VA)
PS Also, it says to forward to 7 people or some such and those forwards with strings of e-addresses are apparently used by ‘pfishers’ to scarf up addresses. I delete anything that says “forward to xx people” or I remove those words if I really want to forward.

I am sending this again because it came through to me blank.
I know that it might not seem a big deal if you have reasonable download
speeds, but sadly many people don't, and these big messages can cause
big problems. When I only had dial up I ended up having to unsub from
many lists because of this very issue. It could take up to an hour for
the emails to download, costing money all the time when you are on pay
as you go. It has to be remembered that people are usually on multiple
lists and some are on speeds as low as 28kbp. With lists that don't do
anything about stopping topics that aren't linked to the subjects on
hand, and this post was definitely not linked to homeopathy, I only view
on the net, if and when I have the time: far less convenient than just
receiving email. I have actually had to change my email on multiple
occasions because people that I barely know, or have contact with,
automatically send out these mails to everyone who appears in their
address book. I for one do not wish to receive them, as I have neither
the time nor the inclination to read them. Now that I am on broadband
it isn't as big an issue but when I was on pay as you go dial up I also
didn't want the expense of paying for their download.

It's true Kerry - many people on this list are not on broadband and many will be on pay as you go.

The other issue raised which is definitely an important point - is the phishing aspect. IF you want to forward on an email that you receive - first REMOVE all the emails displayed and send only the content of the email - and if you value your friends and their online security - Bcc the email to your address list so the recipients can't see who else it has gone to. Pulling email addresses off the internet is big business and if the emails are known to be 'live' they are much more valuable.

The actual size of the post was 12.38kb, tiny in comparisonIto posts that are not pruned of endless quoted posts and such like. if it happened several times each day then that would be different but hardly seems worth wasting peoples dial up costs discussing it.

everyone might start doing it. As with all lists, people should read
the mission statement and if they don't want to stick to those issues,
then find a list that discusses or accepts all of the things that they
