In my homeopathic school we had the 6th edition in our possession.
And studied it a tiny tiny bit - specific aphorisms

But never went through it as a whole
and never was sent to it to read on dosing. Never ever.

We were taught 4th edition dry dosing. Never were taught 5th or 6th
edition even though we thought all we were learning was based on 6th edition.
It took reading on my own and reading David Little and Luc de
Schepper, to open my eyes, as well as being discouraged with
aggravations for patients and hearing about a better way from a few
on other lists.

No, they do not teach the Organon, aphorism by aphorism. In fact
only a few are referred to.

And this is a famous school highly extolled in the UK.

never used Chronic Diseases in my school (unless they used it later,
which I doubt). I left that program in middle of 3rd year because I
was discouraged with it.

But that is NO excuse. We have the 6th edition now and to not be reading it and questioning our practices is pretty pathetic
It is NOT necessary in most cases to give high potency in water except for very strong minor acute or first aid - usually 200C works just fine and often 30C does

In chronic cases I have NEVER FOUND it necessary, after going to water potencies, or advisable to give high potencies - LMs, 30c, 12c, 6c suffice. In fact it makes me cringe to think of it.

I have NOT given a dry dose in at least 6 years in any situation

I would be well miffed if I had spent all that money on a course and
come away without even doing a comprehensive study of The Organon! No
wonder homeopaths struggle when they leave college.

I thought that I had learnt it all the hard way: on my own, studying The
Organon, Chronic Diseases, works of master homeopaths and DL's course,
but if your school and Shannon's are representative of the level of
education, then I would say I did it the easy way, and only had the cost
of books/course archives without wasting all that money on education
that doesn't even give a grounding in the most important aspects of
practice.

The first car that I ever drove, nearly 30 years ago, was a Skoda, and
back then they weren't good, in fact it was like driving a tank. I
recall only too well driving along the road and the brakes going: a bit
like using dry potencies!

You probably made a good choice. These days it is so easy to access
quality education online and of course DL is one of those choices
alongside Hahnemann. And it doesn't end there, you have to put in all
hours of study of your own. One thing lacking though is actual cases
and clinics - one of the most valuable of experience I ever had but
even that is reasonably easy to achieve, all students should make sure
they get to sit in with and take part with their favourite homeopath's
cases.

Yes, seeing actual cases worked live is definitely what was missing in
my approach but at least now with video cases online students can
overcome that shortfall. In one way I have been lucky having so many
cases to work, and that has given me lots of practice, though not
necessarily good for the animals where I made mistakes while learning.
At least following Hahnemann's approach I have the opportunity of
pulling back the case instead of completely screwing up.
