My 4 year old was complaining of a sore throat this morning while we were riding to school - the same one everyone else has and turns into a nasty flu that stays forever. So I asked her what it felt like...usually she knows the drill and answers really well. But here's how it went today...
Me: What does your sore throat feel like?
E: Pain.
Me: What kind of pain?
E: The kind that hurts.
Me: What does the pain feel like?
E: Feels like a clarinet. (I have no idea how she even knows what a clarinet is!)
Me: Really?! Like a clarinet? What's that like?
E: (getting exasperated now): Well, it's like a reindeer. Or maybe a baby lizard.
Me: Really? That's how it feels? Your sore throat, feels like a clarinet or a reindeer or a baby lizard?
E (clearly sarcastic): What? Not SRP enough? HMMMPH! Look *that* up in your book!
Me thinks the wee one has heard one too many homeopathy conversations.
Last week, the director at her preschool said to me, "Today after one little boy was having a coughing fit, your daughter looked at me and said, 'Man, that kid needs a remedy.'"
Honestly, she is hysterical! The social IQ on that one is off the charts!

My son said once when he was about 6yrs of age "How come I can't get any panadol like every other kid when I have a head ache? how come I have to tell you all the time what it feels like? I just want to have a panadol and be normal."

I had a patient reading Catherine Coulter to her 7 year old child for bedtime stories. They both got off on it.

I remember the first alternative health person I saw - a Kinesiologist/Naturopath - telling me that her kids got frustrated because they never got to take sick days off school like all other kids. She decided to let them take a small number of 'health' days off.

WONDERFUL! I love it! I remember when my daughter was maybe 6- she fell and bumped her knee. She looked at me in such solemn seriousness and said that needed arnica montana.

Kids are just amazing!
