Hello!

I'm wondering if anyone has successful cases they're willing to share
with regard to Hashimotos Auto-Immune Thyroid Disorders and other
auto-immune type cases.
I'd really appreciate hearing from those who've worked with these types
of cases.

First, Hashimoto's disorder is an auto-immune disorder & not a thyroid disorder. You must concentrate are restoring the immune system first and also help the thyroid restore itself.

In the old days (1920-30's) they used to make bread w/Iodine; then in the past 20 year's, the use of iodine supplementation in bread was eliminated and a goiter producing substance toxic to the thyroid gland (bromine) was introduced as a replacement of iodine. This damaging effect of bromine on thyroid tissue also appears to contribute to the development of autoimmune diseases in the thyroid gland (Hashimoto's disease).

When iodine no longer binds to thyroid cell membranes, enzymes called peroxidases are able to damage these membranes and produce autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto's.

Iodine therapy allows the sluggish thyroid gland to resume normal production of thyroid hormone. Read Morrison's Desktop companion on thyroid. Thyroid hormone supplementation is not indicated and counter-productive, and has been shown to increase cancer risk.

Insist the patient get a 24 hour urine test for iodine (values below 50ug/ltr are abnormal).

Find the constitutional remedy; possibly try drainage therapy to get the bromide out of the gland & system, eg, Ars Alb 6C, or go to Generals, bromide, abuse of, and try those remedies (12); support for the immune system w/probiotics, ashwanagandha, etc.

Have treated a lot of thyroid disorders does it have to be
hashimoto's, sx are very similar to hypo and from a homeopathic point
of view just a set of sx to prescribe on rather than a disease name.

What did you want to discuss specifically?

Do I remember right that Bromine was added as a preservative--surely not *intended* as replacement for the iodine, and do you happen to know why iodine supplementation was stopped? What a sad double-whammy! Another reason among many to avoid commercial breads...

The Lanthanide remedies are being used for auto immune diseases so you may wish to take a look at these. They are in the book "The Secret Lanthanides " which is also on some of the computer software like Isis and probably Radar.

I think Bromine is used in the bread improvers to help with the rising. Bromine is actually endemic for our society - it is in the plastics of computers and other equipment, it is part of some pesticides, it is also part of some medications. Like Fluoride it competes with Iodine in the body. Add to this that chlorine - the other halogen that competes with Iodine - is used to purify our water - what chance do those susceptible to thyroid disease have?
Some people have that severe reaction to very small amounts of Iodine, which might be why it was taken out of bread. For some people supplementing Iodine aggravates the autoimmune process. Autoimmune thyroid disease was first seen in Japan - Hashimoto is Japanese - and it was only after the introduction of iodised salt that it was seen other places. What was seen was that small amounts of Iodine in the prescence of a goitrogen (eg the Chloride part of Salt) provoked the reaction - the anitbodies weren't seen unless there was a goitrogenic substance there too. Larger amounts of Iodine with Selenium and antioxidants are seen to stop the reaction. If you read Clarke's chapter on Potassium Iodide you can see a bit of history on Iodine usage - it was used for syphilis, and people with Mercury poisoning could tolerate large doses of it - others were made very sick.
As Bill says it is an immune system problem, which just happens to involve the thyroid - most Hashimoto sufferers are TH-1 dominant, and, from what I read, going gluten free can help a lot of them - hmm, hadn't connected this bit before - I wonder whether part of going gluten free helping is because it removes a major source of bromine for them.
They do say that Thyroid sufferers are like the canaries in the coal mines because they are so sensitive to enviromental influences - this is mostly because Thryoid hormones boost Phase 2 liver pathways, when Phase 2 is slow, you get a lot of toxins building up at the halfway handled point, having been made more toxic by Phase 1.

Yes, it does need to be more than Hypo-Thyroidism, as it's the
autoimmune aspects of it that kicks in, every time you give the body
something that is indicated it needs. It may be helpful for a couple
weeks, then the autoimmune aspect kicks in, and it starts to try and
destroy it's self. This involves the Adrenals, and it's hormones, as
well as the Pituitary and it's hormone, and other aspects of the
hormonal and immune system. It's a whole different bird. This condition
destroys the muscles, connective tissue, you have problems maintaining
heat, yet have inflammation in multiple places, lots of allergies, the
adrenals are exhausted; repair and recovery takes forever, and the list
goes on. The body is attacking it's self.

These issues are addressed in detail in the new book by Datis
Kharrazian,Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? When My Lab Tests Are
Normal: A Revolutionary Breakthrough In Understanding Hashimoto's
Disease and Hypothyroidism. He talks about many different aspects of
autoimmune illness, and brings together research in a new way. Dr. Datis
Kharrazian says that iodine should not be used in autoimmune disease,
especially hashimoto's as it will make it worse. Seeing that most
thyroid disorders are not found due to just testing TSH and therefore
often missed OR worse not diagnosed correctly, I would first read his
book and do the immune antibody, blood & saliva adrenal tests to really
find out what your thyroid is doing. This book is a great book on the
subject, but I was inquiring regarding any studies, or successful cases
- with this condition.
