Here are some of my thoughts on the whole thing ...................
Of course dry potencies work sometimes - depends on choosing the exact right potency and the person not being over sensitive. But what happens when you want to repeat the remedy?

Hahnemann recommended not repeating the same potency twice and only way to do that with dry is start with 30c, go to 200c, go to 1M and go to 10M and then what do you do and that potency may be way too high for some. By using remedies in water you can fine tune more and also aggravations will be way less or of shorter duration.

So many homeopaths were only taught dry dosing and this has to do with many factors.
1. The 6th edition of Organon didn't get into hands of homeopaths after Hahnemann died in 1800s
2. All the homeopaths at that time were following primarily the 4th edition in late 1800s
3. All the teachers of the early 20th century were taught by those homeopaths
4. Homeopathy pretty much died out in the US and when revived still taught by homeopaths who only learned 4th edition.
5. Homeopaths kind of set in their ways as most people are think dry is fine (but they aren't acknowledging the aggravations people have; or no results and they don't come back because remedy was right but potency was wrong). It isn't best for the patient as too much time has to go by before remedy is changed if not right. Too many aggravations. Too many non-results. Dr. Luc de Schepper and David Little teach this - they are the main homeopaths teaching this method (and of course their students).

Some homeopaths have started using LM potencies which are in water, which helps, but most aren't using them according to Hahnemann's instructions in his 6th edition of Organon. And very few homeopaths ever use C or X potencies in water which Hahnemann did toward also the end of his life (5th edition)

And as David Little says in his posting on Aphorisms 246, 247 & 248, in the past:
"It is very difficult to learn how to use the LM potency properly just by reading the 6th Organon. There was supposed to be a living lineage of teachers that could clarify the points and add oral teachings that are not contained in the 6th edition. Hahnemann was teaching Boenninghausen about the LM method when he died. Melanie Hahnemann asked Boenninghausen not to speak about the new methods in pubic until after she published the 6th Organon. Unfortunately, this task was not accomplished before the Baron and Melannie passed away. By the time the 6th edition was published in 1920 all those with personal knowledge of the LM potency had died. This makes it extremely difficult to put the entire LM method into perspective without studying the Paris casebooks, the testimony of those with inside information, and the eyewitness accounts of those who witnessed Hahnemann's practice between1838 to 1843."

We went a gentle cure and a faster cure and water potencies can do that. If an aggravation at the beginningn, with water potencies, it usually only lasts a few days. With dry potencies can last a long time or forever.

I saw problems with all the above and I kept studying and found water potencies and rarely use dry potencies at all (unless nothing else is possible).

Of course people have been cured with dry potencies but is it a gentle cure. Is it as fast as it can be? How many have not been helped - have given up because of how long it takes or severe aggravations?

Also homeopaths don't pay attention to the dose (the look at potency but not dose). Many think, because Kent said it, that 1 pillule = 10 pillules = 100 pillules and this is not true. 1 pillule or tablet in an amount of water is a dose.

To adjust for person's individual sensitivity with water potencies can adjust by:
1. selection of potency
2. number of tablets
3. amount of water diluted in a dilution bottle
4. amount of water dose from that bottle is further diluted in
5. number of succussions given to that dilution bottle before #4

With a dry pill you can only give the pill and hope and most homeopaths say it takes 3-6 weeks to know if it is working. That is not acceptable to me for my patients.

Just my thoughts
Sheri

And it is extremely sad that they don’t pay attention to the dose, and
also to the repetition and aggravations when using water potencies. One
woman that I spoke to had a dog that was being treated with LM’s for
skin issues. She was given a bottle of LM remedy and told to give it
daily, coming back to the vet in a month’s time. The dog had such
horrendous aggravations that it was ripping chunks of its own flesh off.
The husband of the woman was anti using homeopathy beforehand, and when
he saw the state of the dog he banned her from using homeopathy on the
dog again: another lost client for homeopathy, and something that need
never have happened if individualisation had taken place. Sadly for
the dog it was then placed back on steroids, and though this did give it
relief in the short term, we all know what the long term effects will
be.

It really is beyond me why so many homeopaths seem unwilling to take the
time and effort to individualise treatment.

Hi Sheri,

First I want to say again that I appreciate your clarifications about LMs and water dosing. And also that I recognize that they offer significant advantage--in *some* cases. But I do wonder how much experience you actually had with 4th edition method as a practitioner, before switching to 6th? Because some of the comments you repeatedly make, just do not resonate much at all with my own experiences of it.

Different cases and circumstances call for different approaches. Why would we want to be limited in our available choices?

You never replied to my (long) post of a week or so back, describing some of the situations where I have found either dry dosing or single dose / high, 4th edition method to be appropriate, or even necessary. I'll be happy to re-post that if you missed it and feel you would like to comment.

I find it odd that keep dismissing the fact that some of us *do* know how to use both methods, and yet still continue to use dry dosing and 4th ed. methodology. Why would I, for instance, insist on using it with myself and own family, if it were so unredeemably inferior?

You ask "... but is it [dry dose method] a gentle cure." Well, yes! if it weren't (as a rule), I'd have completely switched in a flash.

You ask: "Is it as fast as can be?" Well, how long is a string... I find it generally fast; usually results begin within a day or a few--tho not always. Sometimes added speed is a plus, and sometimes other factors are more significant. Really truly. Dry dosing is usually just as fast to give *relief*--it is only the "ultimate cure" (whatever *that* means--getting to where the remedy has done all that it can) that is faster with LMs; I do not think the *relief* is necessarily faster.

Some people and situations are not suited to LMs! I see those are not the ones you have in your practice :o) , and how nice for you--when *you* are treating my son or husband or cat or cow, if you want to use LMs, go for it. But I don't think either you or they would be happy at the process.

You ask "How many have not been helped [or] given up because of how long it takes or severe aggravations?" Well, I have to say that I have both failed and succeeded via both LMs and dry doses. :-) Length of time is not the issue, and aggravations have not been an issue. (And recall that my "patients" are friends and family, so they always let me know how things go! Good news/bad news...)
You write: " most homeopaths say it takes 3-6 weeks to know if it is working. That is not acceptable to me for my patients." :-) Well, the "tighter turning radius" of LMs is one of definite advantages IMO. I'll note, tho, that low potency Cs, even dry, share the same advantage; there's quite a bit of flexibilty added if one isn't confined to using only high potencies (as I was initially taught, tho repented of that restriction long since).
LMs are terrific, *and* they are not always the best.

It sounds like the vet was not very familiar with use of LMs!

There are veterinary homeopaths using LMs successfully, but it takes more observation from the owner, and more input from the vet – probably the reason why they aren’t used as extensively. Even if you are going to use a C, rather than an LM, then there is no reason not to use them in water and have the benefit of adjusting dose. I am only treating animals and I use water dosing all the time. It is a lot easier to get a wet dose into an animal’s mouth than a dry one.

Sending again as it came through blank.

Most vets are not familiar with the use of homeopathy, full stop.
Unfortunately, people think that because they are a vet, they know what
they are doing, when sadly that is usually just not the case, with vets
being happy to dry dose repeatedly, give combination remedies, pile in
more remedies to deal with accessory symptoms, and not bother to take a
case properly, prescribing after a cursory glance and on pathology
alone. And in the UK vets have a monopoly, as it is illegal for anyone
other than a vet to treat an animal.

I think that what seems to be an issue here is the sheer stubbornness of some to absolutely refuse to use water posology, to go with Hahnemann on his journey and arrive at the same place for the same reasons and use his perfected advanced methods, i.e. water posology and even better LM's. Maybe for those who only treat a couple of clients, here and there, who don't have anything like serious or reasonably deep pathology to deal with, only using dry doses has proved to be sufficient. But I just cannot understand why people insist of dry dosing only.

Agreed--I always dose mine in water, then mix the water into or onto the food. I used to do the same with my kids, into their bottle. It's always worked just fine. But as for adjusting the size of dose, I have not found that to be an issue in any of these situations--tho I do think I saw agg from overdose when my oversensitive toddler took an entire "single dose vial" of a close similar (shudder), and also when my then-oversensitive toddler son got massive doses of LM (found out why our then-prescriber did not like LMs--because he hadn't been well trained in how to give them!!!!). But with Cs in water, given to not-oversensitive patients, I have seen no difference at all between 1 sip and an entire cupful (one pellet dissolved).

I've also aggravated myself with a too-large dose of LM--trying to make sure the "not-working" was because of wrong remedy rather than not enough remedy--it was definitely a wrong remedy, whew. :-)
It does seem to me that LMs are more dose-sensitive than Cs! Which is the same trade-off--more control is possible (and for some cases that is a good thing), but more care and oversight are needed.

Hi Joy,

I do agree that people who are using dry doses *only*, should consider becoming acquainted with the 5th and 6th ed. method. They are definitely an important addition!
