I am reading a really interesting book at the moment, Tanya. You may have come across it: it is called Mad, Bad and Sad by Lisa Appignanesi and is about the treatment of 'mad' women since 1800. One thing that struck me as especially interesting was the contrast in diagnostics between Hahnemann's day and the present. Now patients are differentiated into categories such as psychotic, cognitive, anxiety disorders (looking at the presenting behaviour). The Bethlem mental hospital in 1810 was categorising by cause. ie ailments from grief, jealousy, Pride, Study, Fright,Fevers, Childbirth, trauma, heredity, Venereal, smallpox and (oddly) ulcers and dried up scabs.(And more of course). So the homeopathic way of looking at disease had its contemporary parallels and what seems strange to us at first glance now would not have seemed so strange at the time. Where these things are listed as causations or aggravations in earlier homeopathic works they do seem to relate more to psychological or mental symptoms as far as I can see. However the search has not been exhaustive!
