Wife says: Not feeling at peace because rug has been pulled out from under him
so many times...felt so good on friday..and then it started all over again. he
is very touched by how everyone is helping taking care of kids..and people
calling and being concerned..the general outpouring of love...she said he was
crying about this..very emotional. (He described it as emotional rollar
coaste)

At home...he wants everything to be in its place...anxious if things aren't
peaceful when he gets home....he wants a soothing environment...visually...if
all the laundry is not put away..that would be fine...but if its all over the
place..anxious...out of sight, out of mind. Always been concerned about
security..at night and day..doors locked, windows closed, etc. If she forgot
to close a window..she wouldn't run down stairs to close the window..he
would.( I think this started when someone stole his bike off the porch when he
wa 14...then he wanted door always locked..even my car doors which i never
locked).

His wife is alway giving things to people or charity...saying you can have
that, we don't need it..He says..would you check with me first...say he does
not like surprises.

Stomach issues: stomach aches...everyday..through the day...in the last
year...even during vacation. I didn't know about this. Eating would help
stomach ache for a while. Doctor told him in early winter that he didn't have
an ulcer because bengi wasn't worse from spicy foods (which he likes). Doctor
pressed on stomach...and concluded it was stress. Sensation in stomach of
'burning sensation" under navel was what he would feel and he would take tums
for several days..then it wouldn't happen for a few days...then it would start
again. Always better from eating, not necessarily coming back later that day.

She thinks he has good intuition...but that he relies on it too much and
sometimes he is wrong but he continues to rely on it.

That sounds very like Arsenicum--burning pains; insecurity; need for everything in its place--which is also "an acute" of phos.

But what does it mean about not being at peace because the rug has been pulled from under him. Ars would welcome it all being done for them, being looked after, having the responsibility off lifted so to speak, they tend to beg or plead for help when ill and cannot cope, they get really scared. From a polycrest point of view Nux vom has the extreme sensitivity to smells, disorder, wants to have control, all the bleeding, liver, alcohol pointers though. Some pain sensations are required to confirm.

I have never heard of Arsenicum being an "acute" of Phos. I have only read of it being an acute of Thuja and complementary to Phos. Can you give the source? I only know of Allium Cepa and Bryonia being acutes for Phos.

Also, for what it's worth (you probably already know this but others may not)... I would not give Arsenicum during an active exacerbation (like vomiting or passing blood) as it is sure to aggravate (source: Luc De Schepper). I have made that mistake before and it was *not* pretty. This is seemingly an acute exacerbation of a chronic disorder. We can treat the active layer with Arsenicum if that is the right remedy, but even during an acute attack, the active layer remedy may not be the best choice as it very well could aggravate. To be honest, I don't know what the right remedy would be during an active acute attack for the scenario.
Also, if this requires lesional prescribing (like for the liver or stomach), it has to be taken into account that the M/E state is resulting from the pathology not the other way around. So if the pathology is treated, the M/E should resolve as well. Not the same as with constitutional prescribing where the physical symptoms may be a result of the M/E and therefore weighing the M/E above the physical will resolve the physical as well. If lesional prescribing is required, treating the M/E above the pathology will suppress (Hahnemann Revisited, LDS).
On another note, how sad is this: "Doctor told him in early winter that he didn't have an ulcer because bengi wasn't worse from spicy foods (which he likes). Doctor pressed on stomach...and concluded it was stress." I'm sure he was paid good money for that "diagnosis."
