I am passing this on because in addition to herbalists needing our support, it may also be a very timely warning showing us a glimpse of the possible consequences of statutory regulation if it is pushed through for homeopaths… Please disseminate widely.

Kind regards

Grace

Dear All,

Our colleagues the herbalists need our help. They have been frog marched towards statutory regulation by their largest professional association, and just when they had nearly completed all the hoop jumping, government announced they would not be granted autonomous statutory regulation, but had to go in with the HPC! A large number of practitioners were already concerned about the consequences of statutory regulation for the profession, and concluded that being lumped together with over a dozen disparate therapies under the auspices of HPC, would be a detrimental step for the future of herbal medicine. They have drawn up a petition, and have asked us if we will support them.

Please sign the petition if you feel able to, and pass on this message to any of your colleagues who are off group.

Dear All

'Save Our Herbs, The Campaign to Protect Our Herbal Medicines' has now been launched. Supported by International Register of Consultant Herbalists and Homeopaths, Mohsin Institute (Unani Tibb Herbalists), Cropwatch, Alliance of Registered Homeopaths, Simon Martin (Editor of CAM magazine) and Independent Herbalists.

The campaign focuses on the 'Support Herbal Medicine' petition http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/support- herbal-medicine.html and the accompanying preamble.

We urge all Herbalists, Homeopaths, Aromatherapists and Naturopaths to support this campaign. The consequences of current proposals to State Regulate both the title and function of a Herbalist, coupled with the fruition of the Traditional Medicines Registration Scheme will be dire for our traditions, traditional medicines, access, choice, small suppliers and environment. Traditional Herbal Medicine belongs to the people, we must ensure that it remains so for future generations.

These regulations are not about 'safety' and shouldn't be about increased 'status'. Look at Codex and what is happening in the rest of the world, in the European Union, our FSA, our media, mainstream science. We must make a stand for what we believe to be right for the long term well being of our profession.
